Local governments CAN cut property taxes AND fully fund fire departments and law enforcement. If they say they can’t, they’re lying. I will not stand for career politicians demonizing our first responders so they can keep their wasteful spending.

Budgets are living documents & changes can be made to most efficiently spend public funds. Transparency however matters- especially when it relates to public safety & the swiftness of fire rescue response. Stop the manipulations & fully restore countywide Air Rescue funding now.

Last week, @MayorDaniella said 9+ min response times are clearly no “emergency.” She said, even if it was, carryover funds are there. Yesterday, we found out all carryover funds are allocated & encumbered. There was no freely available carryover funds. The budget games continue.

Ending after 4:30am this morning, after an almost 12 hour non-stop hearing, the budget passed on first reading- not without an immense amount of discussion, negotiation and advocacy. Thank you to the 240 residents who came to speak. We hear you. Thank you to our Metro Dade Fire Local 1403 for their steadfast advocacy. We see you. While there were many issues with plenty of necessary gives and takes, as has always been the case, on our residents public safety, I will not vacillate.
