Today, the crew of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue (#MDFR) Rescue 63 was recognized by @mhshospital for their lifesaving actions during an incident that resulted in a positive outcome for a pediatric patient. The recognition, held at Station 63, gave Lt. Sean Webber, FF Ashley Pownal, and FF Ian Tapper a meaningful opportunity to reunite with the young patient and their parents. It’s moments like these that serve as a reminder of the impact our personnel have beyond the call and the difference they make when it matters most.

The members of Miami-Dade Fire Rescue Recruit Class 160 have successfully completed their minimum standards training and are now certified firefighters in the State of Florida. With their preparation at the @MDCollege Fire Academy behind them, Class 160 returned to our Training Center this week to continue their training. This final phase will prepare them to earn the silver badge and officially join the ranks of #MDFR firefighters this summer. #MDFRClass160

Today, Miami-Dade Fire Rescue proudly remembered the late Capt. Bill Gustin, a respected leader in the fire service and a valued member of our department. A native of Illinois, Capt. Gustin came to South Florida in 1978 and joined #MDFR that March. He went on to serve more than 20 years as the captain of Station 2 in Liberty City before continuing his career in the Training Division, where he shared his knowledge and passion with countless generations of firefighters. One year after his passing, MDFR personnel gathered at the Training Center to honor his legacy. Chiefs, firefighters, recruit classes, and professional staff came together to reflect on his influence, sharing stories that highlighted his leadership, mentorship, and unmistakable sense of humor. Capt. Gustin’s impact continues to be felt across our department and in the fire service as a whole, carried on by those he taught and inspired.

On March 16, 2026, at 10:50 p.m., Miami-Dade Fire Rescue responded to a two-vehicle traffic crash with a possible entrapment near NW 1st Place and NW 82nd Street. Upon arrival, firefighters confirmed that one occupant was trapped in one of the vehicles. The individual in the white vehicle required a complex extrication using a winch and coordinated efforts among multiple fire units, including Technical Rescue Teams (TRT), to separate both vehicles from each other. The patient was safely extricated from the vehicle and transported as a trauma alert. A second patient with minor injuries was taken to a local hospital.  Responding B-shift units: R05, E19, E30, L18, R19, R27, R30. #MDFR

Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office
False emergency calls aren’t a prank, they’re a CRIME. “Swatting” puts innocent people, first responders, and entire communities at risk by diverting emergency resources from real emergencies. The Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office takes these incidents seriously and will investigate and pursue charges against those responsible! Help us keep our community safe. If you see something, say something. #YourMDSO #MDSOprotecting

Heading out to the beach? It's important to know how to Break the Grip of the Rip! If you're caught in a rip current, stay calm and try to swim parallel to the beach. If you're unable to escape, float and call for help.

¿Irá a la playa? ¡Es importante saber cómo responder ante una corriente de resaca! Si queda atrapado en una, mantenga la calma e intente nadar paralelo a la playa. Si no puede escapar, flote y pida ayuda.
