Fair question. Here's the answer: -@VP defeated an incumbent Democratic DA in SF. Started out third in three person race. Made runoff but trailed 33% to 37% against incumbent. Won with 56%. -Ran for AG in Ca. against LA DA Steve Cooley, strongest Republican not named Schwarzenegger in twenty years. Cooley outspent Harris by almost a $1m. Very tight race. Took 3 weeks for winner to be declared. Harris won. -Crushed Dem Congresswoman Loretta Sanchez in Senate race.

@RichardEHagen1 @CPD1617Scanner @CMJawando If police had authority to walk into someone’s house, they would catch some ppl doing bad things and thus argue they should keep the right to enter private property “to investigate.” Same logic with traffic. Yes, some ppl will avoid detection, but it’s still good public policy.

@CPD1617Scanner @CMJawando I recall making quite a few traffic stops for what he seems to think are 'low level violations' not worth enforcing that lead to the discovery of much more serious crimes.

Earlier this year, I introduced the STEP Act to limit police stops for low-level traffic violations, to address racial disparities in traffic enforcement and free up police to focus on dangerous driving and crime.
