We took in hundreds of thousands of child dependents who were - by our ridiculous definition - in child poverty (care worker salaries < 60% median income) the moment they landed on British soil, and now we must give them permanent residency to get them out of ‘poverty’. Farcical.
Matt Dathan@matt_dathan

Excl: New analysis shows plans to impose the new 10-year settlement rules to migrants already in the UK will increase child poverty by 90,000. Labour rebels have seized on the findings to argue that the policy conflicts with the party's pledge to reduce child poverty. They are planning to force a symbolic vote in parliament to expose the scale of opposition to the plans on the Labour benches. thetimes.com/uk/politics/ar…

@ZiaYusufUK If Labour cannot pass even these minor migration reforms, and millions of people from the so-called "Boriswave" are able to obtain ILR or even citizenship before the 2029 election, would a potential Reform government rescind those ILR or citizenship grants?

The Boriswave was the worst Tory betrayal. Millions came without the consent of the British people. Most came to not work and have no skills. They will cost the British taxpayer hundreds of billions as they’re granted right to remain. Labour are clearly not going to deal with this disaster. Reform will.

The chairman of Migration Watch UK questions Rayner's claims that it's "un-British" to control the migrants crisis. "Is it un-British, or is it doing British people a favour... what about the people from here and their rights?" @TVKev @AlpMehm

If the proposals just affected a few hundred American AI engineers, who share a language and on average will be massive net contributors, then they would be excessive. But they actually affect a few million low-wage migrants, from extremely different cultures, which could (depending on OBR statistics, subject to review) cost a net £200b+ over their lifetimes. Britain simply cannot afford to give this wave of migrants full access to the British welfare state. cps.org.uk/media/post/202…

Shabana's proposal prevents Americans from being able to start AI businesses in the UK. i think y'all should chill out and do some assessments on what the proposal actually does. It has far-reaching unintended consequences that will completely kneecap the UK's ability to do anything meaningful with @UKSovereignAI or any other initiative to survive in post-AI age.

2,850 Afghans worked as interpreters and translators for British forces. When the Home Office opened the Afghan resettlement route, they expected around 4,000 would be resettled. The Government now expect to relocate nearly 50,000 Afghans in total.

* 37,950 Afghans have been relocated to the UK * 9,000 more are expected * £5.7bn cost, £120k per Afghan * 347 / 361 Local Authorities have taken part * 86% are in Government accommodation * Whereabouts of 18% are unknown * Councils get £24k+ per Afghan they take Much more 👇
Charlie Cole@charliecolecc

The National Audit Office has released a report into the Afghan resettlement scheme, the findings are grim. 37,950 Afghans have already been resettled in the UK and the Government expects a further 8,632 - 9,741 to be resettled by 2030, bringing the total to 46,582 - 47,691.

@Frenchie130 @ShabanaMahmood The British people have repeatedly voted for politicians promising to reduce migration, and it is completely reasonable to expect those politicians to follow through on their promises.

The two men accused of raping this woman are both asylum seekers, living in a hotel at taxpayer expense. This attack wouldn't have happened if our government detained and deported unvetted men who illegally enter Britain, instead of putting them up in hotels.
BBC Sussex@BBCSussex

Two men repeatedly raped a woman on Brighton beach while a third man filmed the "cynical, predatory and callous" attack, a court has heard. More here: bbc.in/4sgqVIH

@Femi_sorry Having conceded every argument put to you, you are reduced to complaining we weren't uncritical enough of the Home Secretary. Embarrassing!

The right move, but many people will probably wonder why citizenship grants were ever essentially automatic at all! The absolute bare minimum any government can do is prevent criminals or immigrants who refuse to contribute from obtaining citizenship.

@MigrationWatch You've been uncritically sharing what Nigel Farage says for years. So you've been supporting his immigration agenda. And his immigration agenda is wrapped up in Brexit, which has cost this country to the tune of hundreds of billions of pounds. So no. Not "non-partisan".

Migration Watch is non-partisan and not aligned with any political party. If a politician commits a crime, is found guilty in a fair court of law, and sentenced to prison, that's fine with us! But that is not what has happened here. You are unable to engage with any points on the real, direct costs to taxpayers from migration, which is why you keep trying to distract with non sequiturs and special pleading. Ultimately everyone reading this thread can draw their own conclusions.

@MigrationWatch Richard Tice: Brexit will not damage our trade or economy. Brexit : *Costs £100 billion a year* We can keep scaling this if you want but ultimately we're just comparing scammers. And like I said, I want them all jailed. You want them in Downing Street.

@LeStyl0 It's disappointing that people given shelter in Britain, and access to our generous welfare system, would so cynically exploit it.
