Grace & Ellarae are leaders in @TrafalgarPS's Indigenous Student Club. Leading up to Sept 30 they prepped announcements to educate about #OrangeShirtDay. On National Day for Truth and Reconciliation, Grace wore her regalia & performed a jingle dress dance for the school community

Indigenous mamas- would you say this is universal for us? I’m a really nice person but my child was being harmed this week and in relentlessly advocating for them I turned into literal mama bear today. Hurt my child and I turn into a female version of my dad… 🐻🤯😡 1/2

In my observation over 30 years as a K-8 teacher in the system, the Ontario elementary teaching force is overwhelmingly white women. It’s impossible to not see it. In my last year I was in a school that had only one male teacher, and every teacher in the school was white except the Indigenous language teacher. The school was over 50% Indigenous kids. I can tell you from personal experience from the perspective of a student AND a parent- REPRESENTATION MATTERS! (the hill I will always die on!) ✊🏽🧡

Had so much fun with the Grade 1’s at @PAlgonquin today, learning about Indigenous beadwork. Beads are powerful and help us tell our stories. Ss got to communicate important aspects of their identity through simple beadwork strings. Miigwetch @MrsLDutton for having me! 💕 @TVDSB

WE need to change the wording from "Unmarked graves to Crime Scenes." Because that's what 10,000+ graves are.

@PAlgonquin we use Sentence Trees during whole class and small group instruction to practice our reading skills with decodable sentences. Ss gain confidence when reading these decodable sentences, turning an "I can't" into an "I can"! @tvdsbslp @SpecialEd_tvdsb @TVDSBLiteracy

Building squirrel dreys today with the kindies as our challenge of the day! Then the Ss discussed which group created the best drey for a squirrel by using the words “more” or “less”. Next on their list is planting an acorn tree to feed the squirrels🐿 @PAlgonquin

@EDUwithEmily I will hang on for dear life to this student while they realize that I will not hurt them the way they are used to being hurt. Eventually they learn to trust me. Every kid needs a champion- especially the tough ones! ted.com/talks/rita_pie…
