This has me seeing red. The democrats wonder why we hate Somalians. This is one reason why. 👇 Somalians come to America and then 💩 on the hand that feeds them. They came here to conquer. We need to deport every single one of them. If you hate America, you have no business being here. Period. I blame the democrats.

@komradekhris @UofOklahoma Exactly…because what is going on with the people siding with the student, especially the “professor” who wrote a book long comment, urging people to “pray for the instructor.”🙄 The entitled student clearly didn’t follow the rubric. People are SO ridiculous.

@UofOklahoma You heard it here first folks: University of Oklahoma is proud to coddle illiterate morons and will enforce academic participation trophies if the right people harass their staff hard enough. Fucking embarrassment of a college.

I’m an openly Christian conservative assistant professor (views are my own and do not reflect those of my university). I teach an ethics class—cyber ethics, to be precise—and I see a lot of opinion papers, good and bad, many with red-hot takes. My two cents. I applaud @UofOklahoma. This is the correct way to respond. No matter how “offensive” you find a student’s opinion, it is your duty as an instructor to put aside your personal beliefs and identity and evaluate the work purely on academic merit. Whether or not the assignment in question was worthy of a passing grade is irrelevant—the instructor made it clear in the comments that the 0/25 was, at least in part, punitive. Saying things like, “To call an entire group of people ‘demonic’ is highly offensive, especially a minoritized population,” reveals that the grade was influenced by personal offense. And while the assignment may have missed the mark on a number of metrics, it is not worthy of a 0, especially given how broad the rubric was and how modest the assignment’s goal actually was: read the article and offer a reaction. “I’m offended” carries no weight in the arena of ideas and certainly doesn't belong in feedback for a reaction paper. I see papers all the time that I personally find offensive. As reprehensible as I find Marxism, I once gave a student an “A” for a paper defending socialist ideas—because my disdain for Marx doesn’t enter into my grading, and the student was an excellent writer. Another time, while discussing divine command theory, a student criticized Catholicism. I’m a devout Catholic, but I can entertain criticism of the Church even though my faith is the core of my identity. In fact, I enjoyed the conversation, and that student has done quite well. It doesn’t matter if the student offended you—you do not take punitive action against someone for expressing their opinion, especially when you’ve asked for one. If you cannot handle this, academia might not be for you, because academia is precisely where offensive ideas are expressed, challenged, and contended with. Furthermore, the instructor accused the student of something she didn’t say. The student called society demonic—not individuals in some “minoritized population.” The grammar makes this obvious. I am shocked (but unsurprised) by how many people commenting on this are so desperate to find malice that they’ve rendered themselves functionally illiterate. I’m not an English professor, but I can certainly parse the subject and object of a sentence. But in our grievance economy, finding offense is worth more than striking gold. I applaud Ms. Fulnecky for standing up for her beliefs in the face of adversity. Her essay may not have been exemplary academically, but it definitely took courage to submit it. I encourage conservative and Christian students to express themselves freely and openly on campus. It is not only their right—it is their responsibility. Finally, I want to offer a prayer for the instructor involved. I know this is difficult to deal with; I’ve faced public scrutiny many times myself. The Lord gives us trials when He wants us to learn something. This is one of those trials. I pray the instructor finds peace and that this is resolved justly. And I pray that my fellow Christians practice the fullness of Christian charity toward this instructor. Christ commanded us to pray for those who persecute us. We must heed this command, however difficult it may be. Please take a moment to pray for the instructor—and for a peaceful, amicable resolution.

@UofOklahoma The student DID NOT follow the rubric. Period. The fact that her privilege makes her feel that she should have received anything other than the ZERO she earned, is absolutely ludicrous. -signed a college graduate.

@swblmevan @KPRC2 It doesn’t matter if the show was “good” or not. It shouldn’t have been pulled. Apparently it’s good enough to get people fired up about freedom of speech and that’s really what matters and get some results. Great outcome!

BREAKING: Donald Trump gets devastating news as billionaire Mark Cuban and LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman join forces and unite over 100 venture capitalists to back Kamala Harris for president. And it gets even better... "We spend our days looking for, investing in and supporting entrepreneurs who are building the future," reads the "VCs for Kamala" website. "We are pro-business, pro-American dream, pro-entrepreneurship, and pro-technological progress." "We also believe in democracy as the backbone of our nation," the site goes on. "We believe that strong, trustworthy institutions are a feature, not a bug, and that our industry — and every other industry — would collapse without them." "That is what’s at stake in this election. Everything else, we can solve through constructive dialogue with political leaders and institutions willing to talk to us. In this pivotal moment, we are united in our support for Vice President Kamala Harris," it reads. The announcement is a powerful rebuke to far-right Silicon Valley billionaires like Elon Musk who have thrown their support behind Donald Trump's fascist movement in the hopes of more tax cuts. Please retweet and ❤️ to thank Mark Cuban and his allies for supporting Kamala — and consider joining the growing exodus to Tribel, a new pro-democracy social network that is exploding in popularity because Twitter and Facebook are trying to stop its growth — which is only making Tribel grow even faster.
