@theobrosevelt @MurrayHillGuy1 My 7 year old hops on her bike and rides to the neighborhood park to meet up with friends after school. Something I could have never fathomed letting her do where we lived. Not with the cracked out homeless hanging out at the park and all along the way.

@theobrosevelt @MurrayHillGuy1 How many kids? I’ve got 3 + 1 due in 6 weeks. More power to you if you can micro manage that in the city. 1 was easy. 2 was hard. 3 pushed us out to the burbs. Love all the stuff you are mentioning just wasn’t practical and was selfish to continue.

How do people in the suburbs genuinely look forward to Friday night on the couch, Saturday morning at Costco, and call that a weekend? Like you really moved out of the city just to LARP as your parents at 34?

@pat_lee @MurrayHillGuy1 Seems the theme in me exchanging day in the life over generalizations missed you. But I’m guessing you understood that, it just struck a serious nerve with you.

@MusingwithADHD @MurrayHillGuy1 I love the vibe of bars, I know parents who go without their kids. They just orchestrate with their partners. There’s about 28 days in a month. It’s concerning that suburban Americans can’t fathom drinking without getting drunk. The isolation must suck.

@theobrosevelt @MurrayHillGuy1 So no kids. Move along. Did all those things too on a weekly basis up until I turned 31. And the zoo / museum is interesting like once every 5 years. I didn’t know anyone in DC who was like, “let’s go to the Smithsonian” every weekend.

@MusingwithADHD @MurrayHillGuy1 My city weekends consist of walking the neighborhood festivals concerts and markets, shopping, day drinking at the park, museums, aquarium, zoo, etc

@verynormalnyguy @gravyglove @MurrayHillGuy1 We walk to restaurants, parks, coffee shop, Amphitheatre for summer programs… lots of suburban developments setup this way. Ranked #1 suburb in America for multiple years in the past decade. One cool perk too is no human shit or needles on the sidewalk

@theobrosevelt @careeningthru @MurrayHillGuy1 Once you have kids you’ll realize stumbling out anywhere doesn’t exist. It’s an hour to get out of the house. Driving 10-15 min is not consequential when you are gaining a way better family lifestyle outside of the city

@careeningthru @MusingwithADHD @MurrayHillGuy1 It’s one thing to get ready and plan to go to these places and drive there. It’s another thing to stumble out of your house and already be there. This isn’t some sort of revelation that urban environments have more third spaces and third space utilization.

@Bodebil60 @MurrayHillGuy1 Sans kids no reason not to live in city. I did from age 18 to 35. But I wouldn’t glorify no spouse and no aspirations for a family in your mid 30s. Waiting until 40 for all of that is a fools game if you think it’s going to be easy to have kids.

@MusingwithADHD @MurrayHillGuy1 It's just something to do honestly. There are no bonfires and pick up truck conventions in the woods for city folks so bars are how they hang with friends.

@AbbyJo551283 @MiamiDon223 @MurrayHillGuy1 I think we need to differentiate people with 2 or more kids. You can totally micro manage city life with 1 kid. I did it. Exponentially harder with multiple or 3 with 1 on the way on my case.

@MarcDiamond14 @MurrayHillGuy1 Why would I be 39 and drinking most nights? My first was born at 32 and I have more respect for myself and family than that. Brought little joy going out once I hit 30. You gotta just grow up and be a man. Serve a greater purpose than doing shit for the gram.

@AbstractEntityZ @RaiderTy92 @MurrayHillGuy1 Ah yes. That’s the reason the city subsidizes a new football stadium to overcrowd the city on Sundays. It’s because the county 30 minutes away really needed it.

@AbstractEntityZ @RaiderTy92 @MurrayHillGuy1 You are confused. The city wants the $ from the suburbs and builds high density parking garages. No one is demanding that. City is demanding our $ as the money from those in the city limits is not enough to support the economy.

@BlairBlaire2 @AbstractEntityZ @MurrayHillGuy1 It’s important for kids to grow up with used needles on the sidewalk in front of their house though. You are missing out on an important foundation in their upbringing.
