“I’m not saying my wife’s a bad cook but she uses a smoke alarm as a timer.” Unbelievably it was that kind of gag by Bob Monkhouse that led to an episode of BBC’s The Repair Shop being pulled after a TV production employee took offence to an alleged “ sexist” joke. The hardback archives of Monkhouse’s handwritten joke books, dating back to 1960s, were bought in for repair by the comic’s adopted daughter and his old writing partner. In a tribute to the comic, who died in 2003, footage of the restoration was due to be aired this year. But the BBC axed the segment after a member of the production company Ricochet complained about one of the gags. I would like to know the identity of that employee. He or she has robbed many of us of a decent bit of television. Rare enough on the BBC I couldn’t give a toss if they were upset about the gag. Monkhouse will have bought a damned sight more pleasures to the world than this employee ever will.

You would have thought that after receiving a six month suspended sentence for making indecent images of children Huw Edwards would have found a stone and crawled under it. Instead he has now chosen to issue a statement complaining about a Channel 5’s docudrama ( he’s played by Martin Clunes) saying nobody had “ checked with me the truth about the narrative .” Grateful if Mr Edwards stopped stinking Wales out and did us all a favour and moved to one of those nice caves vacated by Bin Laden. And now I’m here in this beautiful pub in Maida Vale, London. As you can see from the door to the left of the bar stools, this is one of the last surviving pubs that was originally built for dwarves, or midgets as I think they’re now called (or possibly elves). I have to limbo dance with my drink to get through these four foot high doors, but it’s worth it to know that I’m supporting the little people.

Good point. Hatzola is different because they don't attend general public events. St John's is a planned service. Hatzola are specifically first responders and founded for the orthodox jewish community hence why they exist around jewish communities. They have 24/7 medics who drop everything to arrive at the scene within 2 to 5 mins, bypassing the NHS queue.

Jews are the only group who operate their own ambulances (hatzola) and police (shomrim) in Britain. They do this in 14 other countries, mostly European. In the US, Hatzola has been accused of tending to jews while non-jews have died at the same scene. Why the apartheid?
