Hey @paulickreport @raypaulick @BloodHorse, You’ve all seen @AronWellman7 letter from Eclipse Thoroughbred Partners calling for long-overdue change in racing. With more high-profile owners taking the same stand, I assume you’re digging into the fallout and the growing scrutiny of the Jockey Club and its so called “volunteer” stewards. I sincerely hope Jockey Club–owned BloodHorse, and the Jockey Club / Lane’s End / Airdrie / West Point–sponsored Paulick Report, choose not to cover this. Given the fluff you usually publish, that silence would at least be an honest admission of a conflict. If you want real breaking news, multiple reliable sources confirm several Jockey Club stewards never saw or were even told about Jim Gagliano and Everett Dobson’s Jan. 27 response to my claims. Members weren’t even notified a response was being sent. This dysfunction isn’t shocking, it’s business as usual. Decades of incompetence. Zero vision. Zero leadership. Zero strategy.

This is exactly what I’ve been stressing about for the last four years. This is not a California problem. It’s the result of a visionless, leaderless, and incompetently mismanaged Thoroughbred industry over the last 25 years. No real sport survives without: - a governing body - a commissioner - aligned leadership Horse racing has none of the above, only fragmented, divided entities pulling in different directions. In my opinion, The Stronach Group made a smart, bold, and highly strategic move by placing just 26 machines at Santa Anita, fully aware they’d be removed quickly. That wasn’t a mistake, it was a setup. The industry, the so-called leaders, and the organization supposedly tasked with protecting and growing the breed have failed. California blocked additional revenue streams. Now Stronach has a strong legal and strategic case to eventually exit racing and pursue other opportunities with 300+ acres of prime land. They’re running a very similar playbook at Gulfstream. As an entrepreneur who lives in vision and strategy, I respect the move. As a passionate owner who loves breeding, racing, and wagering, it’s deeply saddening. But let’s be honest: Within five years, probably sooner, there will be no racing at Santa Anita or Gulfstream. So the real question isn’t what happened. It’s who do you blame for the demise of the industry???

That crossed my mind a little cause the Stronach Group are not stupid and thought they get away with this. This could be a ploy to say “ hey we tried” lets close up shop. But they also launder money thru crws lol so who knows

I agree that the tracks don’t care. They are making money hand over fist with the Caws and could give 2 shits less about the everyday gambler. But just like how technology can giveth it can taketh away. Somebody will invent a daily fantasy platform for horse racing where you skip the tote pool. Bet against other horse players every race or in contests. Don’t need the tracks. That can happen OR Pressure on lawmakers. There is no way Stronach and NYRA etc should be allowed to own or parter with CAWS. No other sport would ever allow this in a billion years. It’s insider trading. Horse Racing is just flying under the radar and tracks are being as greedy as possible until they are forced to stop
