Oshii is marching a furious comeback...It's funny how he's been a defining feature of three different franchises (UY/Patlabor/GITS) but there's a portion of the fanbases for each of them that have been ambivalent toward his contributions. It's going to happen again with Votoms

@erstatiz So when we’re given a lot of these shot for shot scenes and events that have clearly been insinuated to have happened before in Patlabor 2, it’s a little difficult to give it the benefit of the doubt. By the time Haibara becomes a talking point, it’s not really trying to be silly

@erstatiz Well the thing about it is that yeah most of TNG is like parody and satire, so I can sometimes ignore the stuff in it. Tokyo War presents itself as something to be taken much more seriously, you can definitely tell by comparing a regular episode and the film-

@erstatiz 5 and 6 are basically episode 3 of Early Days, 10 and 11 is the dungeon episode again and Red Labor Landing, hell 11 is basically Red Labor Landing in live action format

@erstatiz Tokyo War riffs off the second movie unabashedly, and this is after the main series where tons of gags and plotlines are essentially the same exact ones from the previous anime and OVAs. Like what you like but originality was never a strong suit of TNG
