My rather late New Year's Resolution is to try to daily block 5-10 RWNJs that I come across and follow 5-10 new folk who seem interesting and I'd like to see more of their posts. I know it's a drop in the ocean but gotta start somewhere.

Switzerland is turning the unused space between train tracks into solar power plants. A startup called Sun-Ways is piloting removable solar panels that roll out like a carpet between the rails. No new land needed, easy to maintain, and they feed clean energy straight into the grid. If the US scaled something similar across its massive rail network, it could generate enough clean, homegrown electricity to power millions of homes. This is the kind of smart, low-impact idea that gets more clean energy online without paving over more fields or wild spaces. Innovations like this show we can produce the power we need while leaving more room for wildlife and nature. Pretty cool engineering with a big upside if you ask me.

I need you to understand how FUCKING INSANE this story Jeremy broke is. The separatists legally obtained Alberta electoral data....and then proceeded to PUBLISH IT AS A SEARCHABLE DATABASE WITH THE NAMES AND ADDRESSES OF OVER HALF OF THE POPULATION OF THE PROVINCE OF ALBERTA!!!!!

The Tory Takeover: How the Reform Party Destroyed Canadian Conservatism Is the modern @CPC_HQ a legitimate heir to the legacy of Sir John A. @Graham_K @roulinski @CPC_HQ I was going to point this out. The party was on a collision course with disaster when they decide to become 'enlightened' and elect a woman leader. They knew they were facing an epic electoral beat down but may not have suspected the actual historic level it would turn out to be.

@roulinski @CPC_HQ We should qualify that Kim Campbell was pushed forward at the last minute and the party's wholesale slaughter was really directed at Brian Mulroney, who fled.

@merry123459 Clearly this person has anger management and impulse control issues. Someone like that should NEVER be in a position of authority. Not a cop, a guard, a prison worker, hell not even a ticket taker at the movies.

Watching Carney and Poilievre go at it in Parliament is starting to feel uncomfortable. Not in a dramatic way, just in the way it feels when someone is clearly out of their depth and keeps pressing anyway. Carney knows the file. When he answers, he answers the actual question. He doesn’t need to perform outrage or repeat a catchphrase three times and call it a rebuttal. He just explains things, clearly, because he understands them. Poilievre comes in loud and confident, same as always, and that works great on a campaign trail or a Facebook video. But in a room where the other guy actually knows what he’s talking about? The gap shows. Every time. The frustrating part isn’t even the politics. It’s watching someone confuse intensity for competence and expect nobody to notice the difference. People notice. This stopped being a left vs right thing a while ago. Now it just looks like one guy who did the reading and one guy who thinks he doesn’t have to.

Need a fence? What you actually need is a dead hedge. A dead hedge is exactly what it sounds like: branches, logs, and woody cuttings stacked between upright stakes to form a natural fence. It looks rustic, it costs nothing, and unlike a fence, it's full of insects and wildlife. Birds nest in it, hedgehogs shelter in it, beetles, bees, and spiders colonize the rotting wood. As it breaks down it feeds the soil and you just keep adding to it. Medieval farmers used dead hedges for centuries. We replaced them with vinyl fencing that doesn't break down or help wildlife. Time to go back.

Doug Ford thinks hiding the records means the public will forget. Wrong. He lost in court on his personal cell phone records, so he rammed through a bill rewriting Ontario’s Freedom of Information laws to make it illegal for the public to access them. Retroactive. No debate. No hearings. Pure cover-up. Here’s how we fight back 👇 1️⃣ Go around the blackout You can exempt the Premier’s Office and cabinet from FOI, but you can’t erase every trail. File requests on every ministry, agency, email, contract, and lobbyist registry. The fingerprints are still there, especially on: • Doug Ford’s personal cell phone records (court-ordered for release now illegally shielded by his own bill) • The Ontario Place redevelopment boondoggle • The Ontario Science Centre closure and forced relocation 2️⃣ Drag it into court This bill was rushed in a budget omnibus to bury scandals, kill existing requests, and overturn a court ruling. Judicial review is made for this: no government gets to pass a law shielding itself from accountability. 3️⃣ Charter challenge Democracy dies in darkness. When a Premier changes the rules to lock the public out of who he’s calling during Greenbelt deals and billion-dollar projects, it becomes a constitutional issue. Informed debate is a right not optional. While Ford hides behind his new law: • His personal phone logs could expose direct communications on Greenbelt, Ontario Place, and more. A court said release them. He changed the law instead. • Ontario Place and Science Centre deals slammed by the Auditor General as unfair and unaccountable. • Hand-picked school supervisors billing $350,000+ a year for part-time work while classrooms struggle. This isn’t modernization. It’s a Premier weaponizing legislation to protect himself. Transparency isn’t optional in a democracy. If he slams the door shut with his own bill, we pry it open with every legal tool we have FOIs, courts, Charter challenges, and unrelenting public pressure. Doug Ford needs to go. Ontario deserves better than a government that changes the law to hide its own phone records.

Who did Doug Ford meet with about expanding booze into corner stores, and what did they talk about? We'll never know. #onpoli

30 million dollars was spent to transform an abandoned parking lot into a beautiful waterfront park. Trillium park is a peaceful oasis for jogging, cycling, fireside chats and walks with the dog but it could soon become the closest mainland point to a massive new jetway. So sad!
