How good has #Purdue OF Moriah Polar been this year? She ended the regular season as the NCAA leader in two hitting categories & ranked in the top 11 in two more. She also led the Big Ten in three statistical categories this season: si.com/college/purdue…

Watch Isa Torres this year and you’ll see exactly why they say softball is 90% mental. She’s always been a high-contact, disciplined hitter with a simple, efficient swing. But her numbers exploded after returning from a concussion that sidelined her for 8 games early in the season. Isa currently leads the nation with a .558 batting average (82 hits in 147 at-bats), 16 home runs, 50 RBI, and a 1.687 OPS. She set the NCAA record with 16 consecutive hits in 16 at-bats in March, reached base safely in 23 straight plate appearances (3rd-longest in NCAA history), and broke the FSU program record with a perfect 6-for-6 game. Her heat map? Insane. You basically can’t pitch around her. Her mindset? Completely renewed. Coming back from that injury, Isa embraced gratitude, joy, and staying loose instead of pressing or overthinking. She’s playing with pure fun and zero fear of failure. As her sister shared, “She came back from her concussion with so much gratitude and joy.” Staying loose and having fun has kept her swing relaxed and natural — unlocking a massive power surge while maintaining her elite contact skills. That’s how much an athlete’s mental game influences performance. At the elite level, the physical tools are there — but the mind decides whether you stay loose, trust your swing, hunt pitches aggressively, or tighten up and chase bad ones. Confidence, gratitude, focus, handling failure, and playing with joy directly impact barrel control, plate discipline, power, and consistency. The mental side is what separates .300 hitters from .550+ monsters like Isa. Athletes: next time you’re in a slump or coming back from injury, remember Isa. Reset your perspective. Play with joy. The physical gifts are already inside you — the mental game is what lets them shine.
