Disappointing result obviously as the expectations were set high after astoundingly positive canvassing return results, sadly many who had pledged to vote Restore got cold feet regarding vote splitting at the last hurdle and either didn’t vote or voted Reform. Reform’s strategy was undoubtedly effective in this instance, but ‘don’t split the vote’ obviously isn’t a long term strategy that is going to work out well. Reform massively underperformed and it’s clear they’ve peaked and are on the decline, whereas this would’ve been a decent showing for a new party had we not set our expectations so high after the canvassing. Restore can hold their heads high, they’ve got a large support base and the sympathy of the majority of the Reform voter base, who prefer Restore and said as much but don’t want to split the vote. Reform clearly need a rethink about where they’re going since they lost by a huge margin anyway. We didn’t particularly do anything wrong and can keep on pushing, this election was great PR and we know we are the party people actually want to vote for, we just need to prove that we’re here to stay. Not wasted energy by any means for everyone that was out there canvassing.
