🔵 Syrian family leaves Stuttgart after 160 crimes A Syrian large family has voluntarily left Stuttgart for Syria following years of criminal activity, including over 160 documented offenses such as stabbings, robberies, and serious assaults. Eleven of the father’s thirteen sons were reportedly involved in criminal behavior, leading to a coordinated effort by Baden-Württemberg in Germany 🇩🇪 authorities to convince the family they had no future in Germany. Reports indicate that housing, legal, and prison costs for the family amounted to nearly €500,000.

What if Mycenae wasn’t « Greek » in origin? French archeologist Pierre Cabanes argued its founders came from central and southern Albania (~1700 BCE). He also saw the Epirotes as non-Greek, with distinct social and legal structures, closer to Illyrians. #nomorelies

The Fluted Ionic Column from the Temple of Artemis, Sardis, from the Hellenistic Period, circa 300 BC. It stands proudly in the center of Room 160 in the Met, NY. In the museum, it looks impressive at 14.2ft, but 2,300 years ago it towered proudly at a staggering 58ft. The capital and the foliated base torus have both been described by classical architecture experts as exceptionally elaborate. For those who will ask why the bottom fluted section is wider, it is because the Greeks created an optical illusion whereby tall, straight columns would look curved or bent. By altering the widths at various points, it made the human eye perceive it as completely straight. The Parthenon atop the Acropolis in Greece has examples of this technique on both vertical and horizontal planes. The base steps curve outward quite a bit when looking at them from lying on the steps looking sideways. When you focus by closing one eye, you can clearly see each step curve noticeably outward in the middle. When standing up and looking at the steps sideways, they appear perfectly straight. #drthehistories

Dudes you're all hilarious. Don't have the budget, manpower, tech, will and soul. Everyone knows you try your best to pose as you contribute so you can manipulate your way out of allies against Turkey. Everyone will use you, get your "contribution", you will use the toys you bought with the taxes of hard earned money of your people, and when you try to convince everyone to sanction Turkey or get Turkey out of Cyprus or even get their help to support your claims on Agean, they will act as if you didn't do anything, you didn't contribute, tried to be good boy, licked their egos like there is no tomorrow. Reelpolitik will shape the politics, you might hear some "I hear you" barking, then in the end all will be over like the Rojava plans. Because you don't see whats happening on the ground. Don't even understand the dynamics between Turkey and Israel. My god - I'd hate to be a Greek citizen right now. It would be painful to see how toyed my country is.

Many have underestimated Greece. Since the Iran war began, Greece: - Deployed warships & jets to Cyprus - Provided anti-ballistic cover to Bulgaria - Its Patriots in KSA thwarted Iranian missiles - Maintains naval presence in the Red Sea - Is emerging as a pillar of EU security

On this day, 70 years ago, Michael Cacoyannis' "A Girl in Black" (1956) was released in Greece. Michael Cacoyannis on the inspiration for "A Girl in Black" (1956): "This film is clearly influenced by the personal tragedy of Elli Lambetti. Her family drama is put on the canvas of a small community. But the idea of a family dealing with someone’s death was influenced by Lambetti’s personal experience, with whom I have worked many times in the theatre and were great personal friends. That’s where it started –from my personal experience with Elli Lambetti. I admired her and loved her very much.” ("“We laughed a lot”: Interview with Michael Cacoyannis", Alex Leith, 2011)

Ernest Hemingway wrote about the burning of the port city of Smyrna, which was set on fire in 1922 during the Greco-Turkish War under the command of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, in order to completely eradicate the Christian presence in Anatolia. Over 100,000 Greeks and Armenians were killed. "The worst, he said, were the women with dead babies. You couldn’t get the women to give up their dead babies. They’d have babies dead for six days. You couldn’t get them to give them up. Nothing you could do would make them give them up."

@kbalian90 Some blame the Greeks for the fire. They argue that the Greeks, seeing that the city was about to fall in the hands of the Turks, set it on fire because they didn't want the Turks to enjoy it intact. It was probably the most cosmopolitan city of the Ottoman Empire.
