#HappyMorningHere Received @ABRSM piano exam results for my 9 year old son, Nikita, who took his grade 6 exam on Friday. Pleased to see that he got a MERIT!

It’s been a year and a half since Nikita started piano grade 6, and it’s been quite a journey. During this time, he was also preparing for his grade 5 theory exam. The one you have to pass before practical grade 6. He worked hard on it and took the exam last week. Today, he completed his grade 6 practical exam. Now just waiting for the results. Alongside piano, he also made progress in violin, passing two grades with merit and is now on grade 3. It hasn’t always been easy balancing both instruments, but he is keep going. There were also other changes in life during this period. We moved house, changed school, adapted to new routines, new people and new surroundings. Looking back, it really has been a lot. Not always easy, but definitely meaningful. A year and a half of progress, change, and dedication.

Len Deighton was the last paladin of an illustrious line of British espionage writers stretching back to Conrad and including Ambler, Fleming, Greene and le Carré. His Unnamed Spy novels, the complex Bernard Samson cycle & war non-fiction were an integral part of my adolescence.

Saddened to learn of the passing of British writer Len Deighton (1929-2026). I loved several of his books when I was younger including Fighter, his classic non-fiction study of the Battle of Britain & his novel Bomber, a brilliant narrative of the night bombing offensive.

@TomDCPetch In that same spirit, I’d recommend these two titles, too.

Everyone with a passing interest in war fighting should read this book. It was my entry into military thinking - accessible to a teenager it inspired me to join the army, a tank regiment, and remains a seminal work of military history. RIP Len Deighton.
