La guerre en Iran va précipiter ce que dix ans de diplomatie européenne s'épuisaient à maquiller : la mise hors-jeu du continent.
Pourquoi les Européens sont-ils contre cette guerre ? Ni par pacifisme, ni par attachement au multilatéralisme, encore moins au droit international. Parce qu'ils n'en ont pas les moyens. La fermeture d'Hormuz ferait exploser leur facture énergétique et mettrait à nu la fragilité de leur modèle.
D'où vient cette impuissance ? D'une illusion : avoir cru qu'on pouvait jouir indéfiniment d'un monde sécurisé par les Américains sans jamais en payer le prix. Trente ans de passager clandestin présentent leur addition.
Que va-t-il se passer ? La même chose qu'après l'Ukraine. Les pays de l'Est s'étaient alors tournés vers Washington, ayant compris qui pouvait réellement les défendre. Les monarchies du Golfe suivront. Parce que dans un monde redevenu tragique, on ne se protège pas avec des communiqués, mais avec ceux qui consentent à la force.
