@BillClog501 @OrthodoxOrigen @JosephBForaker Historically progressive doesn't refer to early 20th century American progressivism, and also infrastructure at this point wasn't mature enough for central banking in the United States (the eponymous banks were incredibly mismanaged)

turns out this guy is German. A lot of foreigners just want America to collapse and they have a bunch of clever indirect legalistic arguments about why the American empire should stop asserting its own self-interest.
Lucian Atreides@luckyatr

@ThomBrady5 I mean, your rebuttal is basically “akshually, we’ve been doing treason for a long time, so it’s okay 😌”

@FalkTG That was a long time ago. Different generation. JD Vance or Trump would not have helped us during WWII (probably the opposite).

@destinedmorgan @jorfolle @cypix6 The Russian Imperial Army was killing their German brothers, that's the entire point of revolutionary defeatism. The February Revolution was also originally a prowar revolution meant to enact a harder anti-German stance and continue the war.

@jorfolle @cypix6 i'm arguing against licking the boot of the millitary now while they kill our brothers and sisters abroad because they might maybe potentially be more sympathetic towards revolutionaries in a distant distant future. we must fight them at EVERY turn leading up to the revolution.

@GScottShand Why didn't you say it with Vance? It's true after all, he volunteered and can't blame anyone for having gone to war but himself.

Additionally, Platner's quote is essentially identical to a dozen from JD Vance. "When I was a senior in high school, that same Joe Biden supported the war in Iraq." "a leadership class in Washington has failed us time and again... They sent our kids to war.”
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

It's very funny that Graham Platner has created a situation where Republicans are doing hits by pointing out that he repeatedly volunteered for military service.

@SuitablePolitic You know it didn't come and Trump stabbed them in the back, just be honest, it's Trump's fault entirely. He's the president, the buck stops with him.

He told them to stay home while bombs were falling. And that'd an opportunity would come. It came. And seemingly, it'll go. That's the Iranian people's problem. They're willing to protest but unable to organize militarily and amass real power, no matter how much help they get.
Tara Dehlavi@TaraDehlavi

At the same time, Trump did tell Iranians to stay home. The people have repeatedly shown over the last two decades that they are willing to die for freedom (thousands were killed in 2009 green movement protests, 2018 economic protests, 2022 Woman, Life, Freedom movement, and January 2026…) but they are also being told by the US president to sit back…

Disagreeing with President Trump on Iran isn't for joy, it’s out of loyalty. We want to protect him from making a fatal error and being ill-advised. Leaving this regime in power invites a future disaster critics will blame on him. We want to save his legacy, not attack it. #MAGA

@MojaveArtClub @nibnub47 Yeah but wasn't there a whole ordeal of people absolutely loving Vance in contrast to Walz? Low bar to set I'm sure, but I feel like I remember him being considerably more charismatic and well-spoken than he's being given credit for.

Much as the EU bet the farm so to speak on Ukraine, the "Dissident Right" sphere that Thiel and co purchased, bet the farm on Trump being a bridge to Vance and effectively a techno-Oligarch reich. That blew up in the Strait of Hormuz.
Pedro L. Gonzalez@emeriticus

Peter Thiel is cooking up a plan B for fleeing the United States and hunkering down in Argentina, which I hope is an indicator of how bad he think it’s going to get for the new right and how dramatically JD Vance has failed as a viable political vehicle for Thiel’s agenda

I've got MAGA boomers calling me a leftist "POS" for pointing out Martina McBride's withdrawal from America 250 and I've got BlueSky libs angrily factchecking me calling Vanilla Ice and Bret Michaels music icons. It's not easy being a sensible centrist.

@avrilbradley23 He says it's a bad war because he's a Democrat and it's obligatory to pretend like most of these people wouldn't have voted for the war if they were congressmen in 2003
