Missing out on KubeCon Amsterdam this year due to some unexpected health news. I'm gutted to be missing it, but I’ve spent the last few days undergoing and recovering from emergency spine surgery. Everything went well, and I’m on the mend now. 🥂 See you all at the next one! Hopefully someone will pick up my live tweeting of the AKS pre day!

Reminder: If you are hunting down endpoints to remediate UEFI Secure Boot #certificates, I've published a #PowerShell script that you'll find helpful. Use Get-UEFICertificate.ps1 to view PK, KEK, DB, and DBX certificates and optionally save them to files. Available on GitHub and the PowerShell Gallery. Enjoy! #pki #Microsoft #Windows github.com/richardhicks/u…

2/5 Phase 2: 🆔 Session Setup The authentication phase. The client proves who they are, and the server issues the all-important Session ID.

1/5 Phase 1: 🤝 The Negotiation This is where the "rules of engagement" are set, specifically the dialect (SMB 3.1.1) and the security algorithms for encryption and signing.

0/5 📂 Ever thought about the "inner life" of an SMB packet? When you open a file on a server, a complex dance begins. Let’s look at the 5 stages of an SMB pilgrimage. 🧵👇

Windows Server 2012 R2 on Hyper-V in Windows Server 2025 (Standalone or Clustered) Didier has a great post on the registry tweaks needed to get a legacy VM to boot on a new Windows Server 2025 Hyper-V cluster post lift-and-shift here: blog.workinghardinit.work/2026/03/17/how… The post has how to recover post move but also how to prep the VM before the lift-and-shift saving that heart stopping moment! ;-) .@WorkingHardInIT

The joy of enterprise IT and tooling that only supports distro X = yet some more shadow IT to get things going again, and 10 people complaining, meeting analyzing it ... yet not solving anything. Expensive, slow, and crappy. The good news is you CAN have all three! #EnterpriseIT

Remember my little deployment of Hyper-V VMs for #Veeam backup fabrics? Here is the code that generates the auto-installing appliance ISOs, which I use to automatically set up a Veeam Backup fabric & add the #HyperV clusters that need protecting. #MVPBuzz #VeemVanguard

VEEAM: WORKGROUP VEEAM SERVER BACKING UP HYPER-V/S2D CLUSTER SETUP TIP Prior to attempting to connect Veeam to the cluster make sure to set the DNS SUFFIX on the Veeam Server's network adapter to the domain the cluster sits in. Set Up as follows: Cluster Name: MyCluster.MySub.Domain[.]Com Cluster Node0: MyNode0 Cluster Node1: MyNode1 ETC... NOTE: Veeam does _not_ allow for the Fully Qualified Domain Name for the nodes so things break if the Veeam server is not on the cluster infrastructure domain.
