@redheadranting We lived in No Mpls in the 70s. I had shut the living room window before bed and when I got up the screen had been ripped as they were trying to gain access to the house (other houses were hit on our block too) Our schnauzer slept by that window and didn't make a peep.

Woke up to see both gates in my backyard were open. Look on the camera and the alley gate was opened between 3 and 4am, but nothing triggered the camera. The critter cam didn't pick anything up but a raccoon or possum. I keep my house locked up at all times and I have two big dogs, but this still creeps me out.

@HeatherACofer Yes! My little guy had a similar experience today, except his newfound enjoyment was sitting with a cello for 20 minutes just listening to the big sound it can make (compared to his classical guitar).

As the schoolwork load has lightened with the completion of some subjects, a couple of the kids have taken up whittling. Our 12yo came inside a couple days ago with this set of dice. Watching their creativity blossom is a delight.

@Redbarn318 @wrowclif Wait, I'm not grown up because I spent my childhood in central Wisconsin and never met an avocado or chickpea until I was 25? I certainly wasn't worried about it, just curious.

@auesar @wrowclif @auesar of course they ate it. They even LIKED it! They even went so far as to call it EXCELLENT. Much more grown up people than you, who gets worried about a stranger on the Internet feeding people a soup that you've never heard of.

Nothing made me more aware of the state of the "Standard American Diet" than being subject to a meal train put on by complete strangers

@auesar To clarify, my children aren't illiterate, they're just more interested in spending my net worth in various forms of tape and string than reading books

I am only now becoming aware that I have once again hit on a hot button issue and will have moms chiming in ALL DAY telling me their opinions

Did anyone else make these back in the day or was this just me?

@redheadranting Flew to Vegas to watch my nephew play hockey last week, knowing I would have to take a redeye home for some teaching obligations. Did not anticipate how incredible the atmosphere would be, so I put my kids on a plane and flew back the next day for the championship game!

I'm not a last minute plans kind of gal. I need notice, and then I still might change my mind the day or two before because it's an effort. However, if it's one of my children, or my brother I'll drop everything to make it happen. Even if I saw them last week or yesterday. The more family funerals attend, the more I appreciate what little time we really have with one another and I don't want to miss any of what we have left together.

@wrowclif Totally used it for mac 'n' cheese in a pinch when my daughter was 4 and I was still nursing my little guy.

So when are the crunchy health moms gonna start feeding their kids homemade breast milk yogurt. That's gotta be coming down the pipe, right?

People like to talk about how Nike has taken a nose dive, and it has. The stock is down 68% in last 5 years. But look at VF Corp - owners of North Face, Vans and Timberland. Stock was ~$84 5 yrs ago. It's about $18 now, down 78%. Vans has collapsed. The Supreme acquisition was a disaster -- they overpaid and Supreme was always going to be a flash in the pan. High debt load overall. The North Face got caught up in being fashionable for a while, and is now fighting to get back to its performance roots. It's not all "go woke go broke" but that hasn't helped either. Because it puts a brand out of touch with a broad customer base. Once great American apparel companies are losing their way.

Nothing screams "I AM YOUR PEOPLE" like seeing an older gentleman with a Scheel's t-shirt on in Las Vegas.

@wisconsin_now My husband didn't vote -- had no clue there was an important election last week. I wouldn't have known if I hadn't been tabulating. We might be part of a group that is done with advertising.

I spoke with a small business owner in Waukesha County today. I asked if she voted; she didn’t, and we ended up in a long informative conversation. It turns out that she didn’t even know the Wisconsin Supreme Court race was going on, she had never heard of either candidate, and she has only voted 3 times in her life. For Trump. She describes herself as “conservative,” not Republican. She is 40. Basically, she’s the exact voter that Republicans need to figure out. As I wrote before, Republicans in the Age of Trump have traded college-educated, affluent, suburban voters (especially women) for disenfranchised rural or blue collar voters (she isn’t rural but fits the mold) that Trump managed to engage. The issue is that many only vote for Trump, and this effect is more pronounced in low turnout, less visible spring races. Like I wrote before, some logger in Crawford County or trucker in Rusk County doesn’t give a sh*t about an esoteric spring court race. Meanwhile, Democrats are turning out in droves because they’re so angry at Trump. And therein lies the tale. I asked this woman if I could record and share her comments and interviewed her after our initial conversation. She said yes on the condition that I don’t reveal her name or business. As an aside, she wasn’t even aware that Musk had come to town last year, had never heard of Brad Schimel, and didn’t vote in that race or the last governor race either. She didn’t know any of the current governor candidates. I asked if she would have voted for Lazar if she had learned she was the candidate who was more pro Trump and she said no, as she didn’t even know when the election was and would have to be convinced of the significance of it. Takeaways: -she is very disenfranchised from traditional media sources. Doesn’t trust them. Doesn’t watch them. Watches Netflix and that’s it. Is on Facebook and Instagram. Doesn’t listen to talk radio. Does follow my FB page but had notifications disabled for all FB. -she didn’t even know when the election was. -her support for Trump is driven more by his archetype and personality and only a general sense of his policies. He’s a phenomenon. She likes that he’s not controlled. She kept saying he gets “sh*t” done but couldn’t really name anything. Her friend held a Trump party where they all wore Trump swag. She only voted in November presidential races and never in a governor race or spring election. She’s not thrilled about Iran, but it didn’t affect her views of Trump. She gave him a 9 on a 1-10 performance scale, reducing his score by 1 point because she didn’t like the Epstein files not being fully released, but she said she doesn’t think anything has been proven against him. She is against the v*ccine and didn’t take it. Likes RFK Jr. Had no strong feelings about J6 either way. -she can be swayed to go to the polls by word of mouth and whether she can somehow be convinced that her vote or the election “matters.” She hasn’t been convinced of the stakes. She can be swayed by her dad or other people she actually knows telling her about elections. -most importantly, the traditional GOP and campaign messaging - frankly all of the messaging - did not reach this voter. At all. -Core takeaway, to reach this kind of voter, Republicans need to meet them where they are at. She plays bingo, goes to country concerts, and fishes. She knew about a rock garden controversy in the Oconomowoc mayor’s race. It makes me think of the large number of g*n owners in this state who don’t vote. Either that or Republicans need to do more to get back the people who have fled, but those people are motivated by Trump hate, so, as long as he’s president, it’s hard to see them coming back. -new messaging strategies and pathways are needed. The same old chicken dinner circuit isn’t enough. Traditional television advertising doesn’t reach these voters either. She’s just one person. But she’s very symbolic of the very voter that everyone is puzzling over.

Look at that sweet baby -- he might never remember this moment, but the rest of us will never forget it! Can't wait to tell him about it a hundred times.
