USS Tripoli (LHA-7) with 3,500 US Marines Arrives in the Middle East and Immediately Deploys F-35 Lightning II No runway, no warning, no escape. This stealth jet can strike directly from the sea. A new level of air power is now at play as US forces increasingly engage in high-intensity operations under Operation Epic Fury. At the center of it all is the USS Tripoli, but this is no ordinary warship. This ship is becoming something far more dangerous. What makes the USS Tripoli different is its design. Unlike older amphibious ships, this ship prioritizes aviation power. More space for jets. More fuel. More maintenance capacity. The result? A ship that functions like a light aircraft carrier, capable of sustaining continuous F-35 operations far from shore. And that changes the equation. Because now, the question isn't where the attack will come from, but whether anyone will see it coming at all. If airpower can be launched from anywhere at sea, is any target truly unreachable?
