Has been a busy couple of months with a big change no more big machines. I’ve jumped off the farm and into a role as an agronomist with Elders Roseworthy 👚. The Tech site we are running looking good, in foreground knockdown trial applied bit over a week ago.

Finally got harvesting mid afternoon yesterday after 6.5 day rain delay. Missed the storms last night but cool & gloomy again this morning. Week after week of dry sunny weather all year for driest season on record & now we've been stopped 50% of harvest with high moisture 🤦‍♂️

@ZwarFarms Yeah looks like we’re okay for a few days then it starts again by the looks of the weather apps this morning. Pushing for a lateJanuary finish again which we were looking to avoid 😑

@ZwarFarms 11 mm on Saturday just gone, I was surprised where the moisture was at yesterday afternoon. This is the first of the canola and getting a couple of tonne off it and oil appears to be down will see later on when we deliver it.

If anyone is interested, I found this on the @SAPowerNetworks site. Mapped powerlines in the look up and live section. Handy going into harvest.

@brill_ag Canola across the road about 80% damage. If calibre was on the flat I’d expect to see a percentage of damage similar to a couple other paddocks we have

@chrishallion Do you get a lot of separation of harvest timing? That’s what I’ve been thinking about along those lines, may not have saved us this time but odds are it will help

Variation in minimum temperature across the landscape (related to elevation/topography) is going to be the major driver of yield here this year. Has anyone tried to overlay climate within a paddock with soil to create management/productivity zones?

@brill_ag Not in our experience,we get to wheat late as we’re on canola and fabas for a while so not waiting on ripening. I’ll grab a photo to share of current crop and timing stage to share with you. It helped us last year.

@brill_ag We’ve used previous frosted yield maps/ elevation the last few years and sown calibre on non risk zones and Dennison on the high risk areas. One pass 3 bin box.

@brill_ag @theGRDC Yes colwell and dgt-p 50-80 low PBI. I’ll get large diff in biomass if I put more synthetic fert up front. Crop tends to catch up later on in the season once things warm up a bit

@chrishallion @theGRDC You must just have your overall P levels fairly strong and the crop catches up once it accesses soil reserves?

Looking at @theGRDC Canola phosphorus trials at Wallendbeen comparing organic and inorganic P sources. P deficiency (nil P in second photo v 40 P first photo) looking nothing like textbook P deficiency (3rd photo). Wonder how much P deficiency goes unnoticed?

@janadixon_ @WeedSmartAU Yes. Slashing a lot more, tackle some wild oats blowing in/ fire prevention. Residuals where it won’t affect trees etc new residuals when we get access may help with this, double knocking problem spots etc. single spraying some easy kill spots
