wrote about if Tanner Hall could be the #MNTwins next prominent pitching development success story over at @twindaily. he uses a vulcan-style grip on his changeup, which makes it one of the best and most intriguing offspeed pitches in the organization. twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/tw…

@codyschoenmann @ExTwinsNews I'll be blunt. I'm not authorized to speak for @jzulgad, but we know each other well enough. He was talking about pulling the pitcher. It was a bad decision. Is that specific enough for you?

@ExTwinsNews @WHENESOTA I’m not trying to come after you or anything but I think my post is much more nuanced than Judd vaguely claiming the Twins “mismanaged” the game without actually stating how.

@WHENESOTA Likewise, and you’re too kind my friend. I think there’s a younger fan base that is more attached and less jaded than guys like us. Sure, past results shouldn’t determine future performance. But who knows. No one is open for nuance or dialogue.

@jzulgad By “not even close” are you saying other managers wouldn’t have done the same thing? Ober just gave up a two run lead with a similar amount of pitches like three weeks ago in SD. If he had done the same tonight you would have complained about Rocco leaving him in too long.

@NickNelsonMN I don’t understand how so many people can’t conceptualize that using your second best reliever with a two run lead in the 8th inning is in no way mismanagement. Like wtf are we even talking about anymore?

We were joined by @NickNelsonMN to lay the Twins’ season to rest, though Cody tried to look on the bright side. We tried to look ahead to the prospects of rest of the season—hitting, pitching, running, and fielding, and played Immaculate Gregg twinsdaily.com/news-rumors/mi…

Payton Eeles has become a marvel of a prospect in the #MNTwins org since joining them on May 7. He's hit .315/.441/.486 with 32 SBs in 88 games across the Minors. Read up on how the infielder got from Indy Ball to Pro Ball with my latest @ZoneCoverageMN zonecoverage.com/2024/mn-twins-…

@drek77107 @NickNelsonMN @codyschoenmann He may have peaked last year, yeah, but there’s room between being 30% above ave and being a AAAA guy. The most glaring thing right now is probably an approach thing, rather than an ability thing, if I were to guess. He can still be a solid big leaguer. I’ve never been super high

not going to pile on Julien, but i think there needs to be a shift in how Twins fans view him. it's probably more appropriate to view him in the same light as borderline MLB players like Severino, Camargo, Keirsey Jr, etc. rather than Wallner, Larnach, and maybe even Martin.

@NickNelsonMN on the LHP front, yes, but Larnach, Wallner, Kepler, etc. are hitting RHP well and Julien isn't. that's the differentiating factor this season. i mean this is completely my opinion, but i just don't think he will be able to turn it around enough to become a sustainable MLB hitter

@codyschoenmann I mean this is true of literally almost any LHB on the Twins so I don't see it as much of a differentiating factor in evaluating him.

@shaylarz @hatzofftothee i'm on the same page. i think the best thing for him would be spending the rest of the season in St. Paul with the goal of competing for a roster spot next spring training.

@NickNelsonMN don't the platoon splits concern you a bit, though? he has a .676 OPS versus RHP in the majors this year and has never performed well against LHP. he's only succeeded in a platoon role, and if he can't hit RHP, where's the value?

@codyschoenmann Seems pretty harsh for a guy who was their leadoff hitter in the playoffs last year. I choose to believe this year is the outlier versus the past 3 years. All things considered, an 89 OPS+ isn't *that* bad for a soph slump, and he has a .412 OBP at Triple-A.

@shaylarz @hatzofftothee what concerns me the most with Julien is that his struggles are purely performance based and can't be written off as him struggling because of an injury like Miranda. also, Julien has only performed well in a platoon role while Miranda has always been able to hit LHP and RHP well

@hatzofftothee @codyschoenmann Yep! Granted Miranda had an injury to explain things a little better but still. He's young. He's got skills. He worked very hard on his defense and it's just unfortunate a real blunder proved to be so consequential. 24 just ain't his year. Stinks but it'll be OK.

as they have a significant number of prospects in the high and low minors who project to be sustainably productive MLB-caliber players (Lee, Keaschall, DeBarge, Culpepper, and maybe Schobel, Doncon, Amick, etc.)

that outcome would be disappointing. however, that type of player still has a lot of value, especially over a 162 game season. nevertheless, the days of him being a 138 wRC+ player who's a cog at the top of the lineup are likely over. luckily, the org can shoulder that burden
