fun fact the german train ticket does not give you the rights to a seat, the ticket just lets you enter the train, the seat has to be booked extra, if you don’t book a seat you’ll have to sit on the floor if the train is full also the ac often doesn’t work and the trains often stop for hours on end in the middle of nowhere. the board restaurant is broken half the time but when it works the food is good. cheers and happy travels

Canadian pilots during WW3 realizing they have to fight J-20s and SU-57s in a Gripen:
🇨🇦 Policy Hawk@CDNPolicyHawk
It's being reported that the decision around the F-35/Gripen has effectively been made, with sources telling La Presse that it will be a mixed fleet of ~30 F-35s and ~60 Gripens. The remaining decision is about the timing of the announcement. lapresse.ca/affaires/2026-…

@CDNPolicyHawk We should find a NATO partner (or NZAUS) which wants F-35s and first sell them our future slots, then the physical ones we now have.

I started writing a piece about the reporting today that the Government of Canada has effectively chosen a dual F-35/Gripen fighter fleet, but is waiting for the right time to announce it.
I stopped when I read Philippe Lagassé's piece.
The core of my piece was that if Canada will end up with an entirely F-35 fleet, there's no real hurry to announce anything. But if we're adding Gripens, there's real time pressure.
The reason for the former statement is that the review process hasn't slowed down the F-35 procurement at all. We're just saying we may exit at one of several future off-ramps in the contract.
For reasons why we are in a hurry if we select Gripens, just read Philippe's piece:
