San Francisco is such an elite city when you don’t have people who have never been there telling you it’s a shithole

Christopher Nolan and David Fincher both cited Terrence Malick as a huge inspiration and praised his visual language.
Nolan stated, “Malick's influence on my work is very clear, and Malick more than almost any other filmmaker I could name, his work is immediately recognizable. His films are all very, very connected with each other, and they’re very recognizably his work but it’s very tough to put your finger on why that is or what you’re seeing in that. The technique is not immediately obvious. I think it's that unifying mind behind the films that really shows the unique nature of his vision and that he is a very controlling creative.”
Fincher added that, “I think that with Malick you go to have something else illuminated for you other than, you know, what would it be like to get away with murder. You're going to see somebody who labored over something. You're going to see something that wasn't just the next thing on the assembly line. You’re seeing something that was thought about and meditated over, and you’re going to see this thing that's a one-off.”

@polihedge @kron4news @activeasian Chinese woman gets off nearly unscathed because she’s saved by and Chinese judge. This Chinese woman killed a whole family. How outraged are you?

A driver who killed a family of four, including two babies, at a San Francisco bus stop was sentenced to probation. Mary Fong Lau (seen here walking through the courthouse today) dodged jail and prison time.
Lau, 80, was speeding when her Mercedes SUV plowed into a West Portal bus stop in 2024, investigators said. A family was waiting to catch the bus for a trip to the zoo.
The crash killed Diego Cardoso de Oliveira, his wife, Matilde Pinto, and their two babies.
Lau stood up in the courtroom and said, “I want to say to all the family, sorry. Sorry.”

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake.
The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure.
The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America.
I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

After much reflection, I have decided to resign from my position as Director of the National Counterterrorism Center, effective today.
I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.
It has been an honor serving under @POTUS and @DNIGabbard and leading the professionals at NCTC.
May God bless America.

@AshNicoleMoss What a lazy take…
You have to imagine if every player just gave in and “mastered the art” (that’s bullsh*t btw) of drawing fouls. Disgusting
We have to have to stand up and have principles.
This is beyond SGA, this a league & officiating issue. But why you said is criminal.
English

basketball has always involved the art of manipulation. especially when you talk about "the art" of drawing fouls — SGA has mastered basketball. mastered getting away with something that is allowed & while frustrating ... he's simply taking advantage of system the league created.

Jaylen Brown after Celtics-Thunder: “We commend players for playing the game the right way, but we give the benefit to those who necessarily are trying to manipulate the game to their advantage. I just don’t think that’s basketball… All the foul baiting, I think, it’s whatever for me.” (via @Balldontlie)

This take should be universally approved, but the player stans can’t see the forest for the trees.
This goes for all the grifters. Shai, Luka, Brunson, etc. Everyone knows damn well it sucks to watch and is bad for the game.
Bill Simmons@BillSimmons
You can hear Jaylen yell “that’s not basketball.” He’s right. A bunch of stars have adopted this specific “drive hard left, draw contact on a semi-impossible shot, then flail” move and it keeps working. Refs have to stop calling it. It sucks to watch.
