Carpenter bees are noxious pests. They burrow into wood, including the wood of our homes, & nest there creating brood after brood after brood. The Carpenter bees here in California are not docile, they're very confrontational. They'll attack you if you get within a couple feet of their flowers or their nests & chase you all over the yard. They chase each other as well & don't seem to like anyone. They got into my patio in my yard & drilled holes in every upright support. They're a nuisance & a pest. They're also very tough so you often have to whack them many times before they can't attack you any more.

This a carpenter bee seen up close (Xylocopa ruficornis). Despite their large size, these bees are generally docile and are unlikely to sting unless they feel threatened or are handled roughly. [📹 jithesh_pai]
