Seeing this name on the list of terrorists about to be released shattered my heart. Again. He murdered Ari, my older brother. And now he’s getting out.

The fact that much of the world legitimized Hamas, never stood up for these women or any of the hostages, and forced Israel’s hand to hand over terrorists and murderers in exchange for their return will never be forgotten or forgiven.

Maybe when we stop we’ll see that the world is one great big mirror and those we’re fighting are actually just ourselves disguised as our enemies and all they really need is some love and a good cry to lay the pathway to peace.

What is it about the Gaza war that’s causing all these riots around the world? During the past 50 years the world has seen HUNDREDS of terrible wars. None of them caused the massive anti-Israel riots we’re seeing now in the universities. So what’s unique about this particular war? Are there more civilian losses in Gaza (10,000-14,000) than in other wars? Not at all. The war in Congo killed MILLIONS ; The Syrian civil war almost a million; The wars in Iraq and Afghanistan killed hundreds of thousands each. Was it that Israel initiated this war? Nope. This war started ONLY because of the savage October 7th massacre that Hamas executed against innocent babies, women and men. So why? What’s is it about this war that gets these intellectuals and students out there burning and breaking into buildings? Why is the ICC singling out Israel? You know the answer: Because it’s Israel, the only Jewish State on earth. It’s the Jews. It’s the same reason Jews were singled out for the past 2000 years. Jews were accused of being lazy or too ambitious; of behaving differently or trying to assimilate; of being weaklings or being too strong; of being an economic burden on society or succeeding too much in business. The true reason was none of these. It was because they were Jews. This wave of Israel-hate is simply a new incarnation of good old antisemitism. Well, we won’t apologize for being Jewish or loving the Jewish State. Get over it.

@rabbimarkiz I appreciate your question- to me at the end of the day if we measure in terms of benefit most will eventually leave when they determine they don’t use it anymore or doesn’t serve their individual needs. It has to be about a larger purpose to me that people can believe in.

@rabbimarkiz Also I truly believe that the purpose of our synagogues is yes, in part to serve the needs of our congregants, but not only that. I believe we have a firm obligation to the city and world around us to do good.

@rabbimarkiz Sorry I respectfully disagree that synagogues always need to flow with the prevailing zeitgeist. Sometimes our role is to act as counter to that and offer something entirely different from the yoga studio.
