This is the SAME ref Devin Booker called out. Standing right there and allowing OKC to hack 🤔

@deansguide @RicBucher The refs call phantom fouls period. Do you examine the fouls called on both teams? Hartenstein was a recipient of fouls simply by proximity.

@RicBucher Hi @RicBucher Sorry but I've watched 5 OKC games in the past few weeks. The refs are calling phantom fouls in favor of SGA. I love his attitude, his talent, his drive but Silver's meddling with how the games are worked is becoming farcical

The MVP narrative around SGA is fueled by more than just free throws. His footwork, dynamic scoring, and leadership define his game, not just fouls. The perception of 'foul baiting' often comes from social media clips, not full game observation. #NBAPlayers #SGA #MVP

It’s exhausting. The Suns had 41 turnovers turned into 56 Thunder points, and the conversation is still about Shai and the refs. This is a team that should’ve been the seven seed but couldn’t get through the Play-In… now it’s foul-baiting talk? The Suns have an accountability issue.

Book’s been flailing and baiting all series, yet not a word on the TL. I get it’s trendy to hate OKC, but keep the same energy. He’s only complaining now because he needs excuses, like other teams do when OKC belts them.

We have to acknowledge that SGA is a generational scorer and one of the best scorers of all time. If Booker is going to embellish the marginal contact from SGA's bent left arm to flop territory, they are going to have a long day

@Mishbia15 The bad calls went both ways. There were some phantom fouls on Hartenstein that were head scratchers. Your players are mentally fragile and need to focus in their game.

I am 100% behind Devin Booker here. Last night was not a good look for our league. Let me be clear, we didn’t lose because of officiating, but that doesn’t make last night any less important. If the referees are going to demand respect from the players - as they should - then the players should demand respect from the referees. When a referee is missing calls and clearly disrespecting the players, almost mocking them, they must be held accountable. Nobody who loves this game enjoyed watching that last night. They want to see the players compete at the highest level. The league needs be far more aggressive about this kind of thing. All players and all fans deserve it.
CantGuardBook@CGBBURNER

Devin Booker WENT OFF in his postgame interview about the officiating in tonight’s game vs OKC: "It's definitely something that has to be looked into. I heard Caruso tell them to call the tech and he ended up doing it. In my 11 years, I haven't called a ref out by name, but James [Williams] was terrible tonight, through and through. It's bad for the sport, bad for the integrity of the sport. People are going to start viewing this as the WWE if they're not held responsible." "I know I haven't won a championship in this league but I have been in it for 11 years now, so to get to this point to be treated like that, for me to even be saying something out loud... It's bad. "It's my first time in 11 years but it's needed. Whatever, I get fined for it, everybody can pull the clips and see where the frustration comes from."

@adamdepmore Booker and Brooks complain so much it gets irritating and hard to watch. There were dumb calls on both teams. Booker had more free throw attempts than any other player in the court.

OKC is not good for the NBA. The best thing fans can do for the NBA is to turn off the TV when they play. In the long run this will benefit teams like the Suns, who are victims of this bastardization.

It's amazing how actual NBA media has become delusional.
Hardwood Paroxysm@HPbasketball

Thoughts on officiating: - Fans always feel their team gets screwed, but universally, everyone watching OKC feels like something is off in how they're officiated. That matters. It just does. OKC Fans will claim jealousy or hate because the alternative is untenable for them. But there is a genuine feeling among all fans that the disparity in SGA's whistle to their defensive whistle is incongruous - The next step is the "So you think the league is rigging for a small market team?" and I understand the consequential thinking, but I think it's healthier to just focus on the problem. I think there's no grand conspiracy but there IS an incongruity in officiating. - Last year, we had an awesome first round, in which the players were openly pleading to be less physical because they felt it was dangerous. So now we've gotten a regular-season whistle. And it sucks. As fans, we hate it. I don't know what that balance should be because it's not my body on the line, but it sure feels like there's a way to have a physical contact sport set of officiating perameters that also deters dangerous play - Finch was campaigning to try and politic a win, but he also wasn't wrong when before Game 2 he made the point that the call should be based on what happens at point of contact and not what happens afterward (flop/flail/fall). The contact is what needs to matter and not the sell job after it. - Shai is genuinely difficult to officiate because he IS incredible at driving and controlling where he goes to challenge direct path defense. It's a genuine skill he has. - He also sells because otherwise he doesn't get the call. This is maybe the biggest problem of all: if you legitimately create the contact but don't performatively exagerate it, you will not be rewarded. That's a problem. - We always find something to say is a problem with the NBA, and more so in the playoffs when it's in the spotlight. But this is a genuijne issue for watchability. Fans don't want this. The league needs to listen.
