Italy's Lorenzo Buffon makes a save for the camera wearing a pair of trainers, baggy tracksuit bottoms and what looks like gardening gloves during training at Highbury ahead of a match against England back in May 1959.

"…And on him they laid the cross" - Luke, 23:26 Rot Weiss Essen keeper Hermann Ross jumps to take a catch during a Regionalliga West clash against Alemannia Aachen during the 1964/65 season. The match ended 1-1. And we apologise for the poor Good Friday gag.

Middlesbrough had 32 shots. 19 in the first half. Created an xG of 3.12. Had the second most touches in the opposition box in the first 45 since Opta records began. Dael Fry had 6 shots alone. Final Result: Boro 1-2 Millwall 😬

None of this tippy tappy tiki taka nonsense from the back. Jim Blyth picks the ball up, wallops it downfield and finds Ian Wallace, who sticks it in the back of the net for the winning goal and nice assist for his keeper (worth it's weight in gold in Fantasy Football these days)

What's not to love here. Belgium's Armand Seghers makes a save against the Netherlands back in 1960 wearing his trademark hat in front of square goalposts against a backdrop of smartly dressed spectators, including some with the best seats in the house.

This is wonderful from ⁦@goalkeepersdiff⁩ - from an early 70s edition of Shoot! magazine. Can you imagine players now doing a bit of extra work for a few quid during the summer? 🤣

It's been a bit doom and gloom on here over the past couple of days. To cheer everyone up, here's a photo of QPR's Frank Smith making a save for the cameras during a press event at the White City Stadium prior to the start of the 1962/63 Third Division season.

@iManc_ @AndyBodfish Yes and no. The original shirts were proving to be unsuitable in the Spanish sun. In the Germany game, Mariner and a few others wanted a change of shirt because theirs were soaked with sweat but the only replacements were the original version of shirt.

@AndyBodfish All the kits were cobbled together in the factory overnight. Great designs for their time it the company was a Mickey Mouse outfit.

Just a casual reminder that England wore two versions of the Admiral red shirt at World Cup 82 against Germany

Following on from yesterday's news about Tony Godden, we've just learned that Borislav Mihaylov, Bulgaria's 1994 World Cup goalkeeper and wig promoter, passed away today.

@goalkeepersdiff Absolutely does, I did used to wonder as he was the only keeper wearing anything like them back in the day. Very under rated goalkeeper

Sad to hear of the passing of Tony Godden, a stalwart of the great West Bromwich Albion side of the late 70s/early 80s. A goalkeeper who was fond of a red jersey, helped in part by the Baggies' yellow and green away kit.

@PhilPowell2 They were the gloves worn by wicket keepers underneath their wicket-keeping gloves (if that makes sense)

Yep, we found another tenuous doppelganger. Number Eleven in our annoying series of Goalkeeper Lookalikes: Norwich City goalie Kevin Keelan and former Blue Peter presenter and Doctor Who companion Peter Purves.

A painful one for our Irish followers, but during last night's penalty shoot-out, referee Glenn Nyberg double-checked every spotkick to make sure each goalkeeper had one foot on the line. Had Matěj Kovář saved Troy Parrott's effort, it would have been retaken. The rest were fine.
