@EndWokeness @cturnbull1968 Construction $$$ must go to underqualified & inefficient firms- for equity's sake.
English

@cturnbull1968 That was back in the 70s and they still did it faster. This isn’t ending before 2030.
Oh and the cost?
1970s: $141 million ($600m adjusted)
Now: $5.4 BILLION
So who’s the turnip here?
English

It took 5 years to build in the first place, you turnip.
End Wokeness@EndWokeness
It's now been 2 years since Key Bridge fell in Baltimore. This is how much is rebuilt:

@ChicagoContrar1 Broad community concern should be expected in sanctuary communities...

@urbanpsych0 @BenachoBen @belliott123 @WallStreetApes You're missing the point. There is a LOT of generation capacity in Illinois and the Midwest in general that is not currently being utilized. There are plenty of generators spinning in reserve as it is. Also, not all "real" power generated is used (reactive power isn't "useful")
English

@jslimsmith @BenachoBen @belliott123 @WallStreetApes All power generated is used. If the power plants turbines stop spinning, your lights turn off.
English

The largest data center in the entire state of Illinois is being planned right now
It will be massive, spanning 800 acres of mostly farmland
It will use 150,000 gallons of water every day. That’s 55 million gallons of water per year
So many Illinois residents showed up to their city council meeting to oppose it they had to put out extra chairs in multiple rooms
English

@urbanpsych0 @BenachoBen @belliott123 @WallStreetApes Agreed, but there is a lot of unused generation in Illinois that wouldn't require them to "make their own power".
English

@jslimsmith @BenachoBen @belliott123 @WallStreetApes Electricity doesn't just magically appear. It takes fuel to run generators. Electrical costs go up if there's an increase in demand, but fuel supplies don't change.
English

@Notaschill @pitbullpatriot3 @WallStreetApes And it's growing. The Bears will be setting up shop nearby- completely transformative for the area! 🫰

@jslimsmith @pitbullpatriot3 @WallStreetApes That would be AMAZING for Chicago. I hope it gets done. I’m from northern IN. There are A LOT of places in the area that would benefit from that. Bethlehem Steel shuttered the mill. Perfect place for a datacenter.
English

@Notaschill @pitbullpatriot3 @WallStreetApes They are trying, there is a big development on the southside of Chicago, but the residents are challenging because they don't want to be "priced out". capitalbnews.org/chicago-quantu…
English

@jslimsmith @pitbullpatriot3 @WallStreetApes I agree. My thought, though, is why not clean up blighted areas of cities with new, clean datacenters rather than take farmland that is producing? It seems like a win/win. Residents will complain until they have cleaner neighborhoods in their cities.
English

@_m11nine_ @BenachoBen @belliott123 @WallStreetApes Maybe, but there is a lot of nuclear power in IL to draw from. META just signed a big deal last year to buy power from a downstate IL plant who will be uprating their output.
English

@urbanpsych0 @BenachoBen @belliott123 @WallStreetApes The power doesn't have to be newly generated on site...
English

@BenachoBen @belliott123 @WallStreetApes Its guaranteed Natural Gas. A solar array is definitely NOT ever going to power one of these beasts.
English

@BenachoBen @belliott123 @WallStreetApes They pay other power generators, perhaps even in other states. The electricity is transmitted over the grid, which may have to have upgrades as well.
English

@Notaschill @pitbullpatriot3 @WallStreetApes The communities around those shuttered factories are surprisingly even more against data centers than farmers. Farmland gets converted all the time, why not for relatively clean data centers, as long as infrastructure costs are not absorbed by residents?
English

@pitbullpatriot3 @WallStreetApes Why does it always have to be farmland? Aren’t there any old steel mills to tear down? I’m being rhetorical. I KNOW there are. There are also whole industrial areas that have no businesses because they were shipped overseas. They don’t have to take over farmland.
English

@Kamalu1979 @GavinNewsom What is this junk? Multiple companies listed twice. Why is Palantir not listed?

@Ilya_Elante @FightWithMemes WRONG. There have been more warmonger queens than kings per capita. nber.org/papers/w23337

@FightWithMemes If men didn't cause wars, we wouldn't need a military.

@z__pan @osgamer74 @AustinOhae86166 @HonestHeatStan @FightWithMemes Yes, men will impulsively run in to burning houses and make other risky decisions in order to attempt to save people's lives. Women will assess the risk and decide not to act to preserve their own complete safety.

@osgamer74 @AustinOhae86166 @HonestHeatStan @FightWithMemes Google is free 🥀
Grok response:
3. What studies say about disasters
In real evacuations, it has been observed that:
Men make more impulsive or risky decisions.
Women tend to assess the situation more thoroughly before acting

Here you go, you can tick that off. How come we’ve never see you do this job?
English

@circumcisedbull @moraltreason @lporiginalg Some men, maybe. But there are also more men in the world who comparatively just absolutely suck at things. Also, men historically have had to pursue a livelihood in order to sharpen their skills at a given craft. Not so for women.

English

@jslimsmith @moraltreason @lporiginalg Yeah but if men did those things, they would be the best in the world at it…
English

@circumcisedbull @moraltreason @lporiginalg Crafting & knitting, interior designing aka "a woman's touch". Which may be bunk but it is considered worth something...
English

@moraltreason @lporiginalg I can’t even think of a single sport, hobby, activity that women are better at than men… you’d think cooking but all the top chefs in the world are male…
