I’ve seen him live a few times in recent years. Something occurred to me. He used to be a very funny comedian who told jokes. Somewhere along the way his act devolved to being an endless litany of anecdotes about a character named “Dave Chappelle” who sees himself as some kind of misunderstood martyr. Always persecuted. And always the hero of the story. Another thing I’ve noticed about comedians who stopped being funny is how often they laugh at their own jokes. You’ll know when you’re supposed to laugh when he hits the mic on his leg. Please clap. 😕

The worst thing that ever happened to Dave Chappelle is that people started thinking he was some kind of thought leader holding up a mirror to society instead of just a comedian. But he also totally embraced that so it’s hard to have much sympathy for him

As much as I love these guys, I’m not really stoked about this. I actually think it could work without Whedon, but only if members of the core writing team came back. And I’d much prefer a live action show that presented an alternative timeline to Serenity. Great writers could make this work and longtime fans would accept it. Same way OG fans of Battlestar came to accept the reboot. And in keeping with the spirit of the Browncoats, I’d love for this to be a truly independent production far from Alliance control. 😉
