@abathrowbacks @rsimpson44 @DanIssel44 @nuggets @DNVR_Nuggets @brettmgoldberg @CoachKarl22 @VicLombardi These Nuggets were the ABA's best team in 1976, but Doc's Nets pulled a major upset by winning the title series. As a Nets fan heading into game 1, I anticipated Denver to win in 6 - and for it to be a remarkably entertaining series. (It was, tho it was hard to find on Tv)

@SpencerAlthouse Colbert's own lawyers (or writers) aren't familiar with the concept of fair use or the blanket licenses the network already has from ASCAP, BMI, etc.?

@VinnysCorner1 I'll keep Doc, Baylor, Bird & Havlicek. You can have the rest.

@PeterVecsey1 Yep, the tandem that led the NY Nets to the first two post-merger NBA titles.
English

@franfraschilla @JuliusErving @sixers I recall it vividly. In fact, I suspect the greatest inventory of as-yet-unmined Dr. J Nets highlights are in the tapes of NYC area evening newscasts' sports reports, which typically featured 2-5 Dr. J clips from each Nets game.
English

Those of us who watched @JuliusErving on Channel 9 in New York City playing for New York Net pre-knee tendinitis saw this virtually every night. The @sixers version was only 70% of the young Doc. Who remembers?

The final hurdle of 1966's AFL-NFL merger agreement is crossed as three NFL teams — the Baltimore Colts, Cleveland Browns, and Pittsburgh Steelers — agree to move to the new American Football Conference (AFC) beginning in 1970.
As an incentive, each of the three teams would receive a payment of $3 million, paid by the other NFL owners.
This realignment would create two 13-team conferences, the AFC and NFC.

@KevG163 @Jimschr96585222 Falcons, Saints and Vikes would have been a better idea. What a shame to break up the great rivalries the Steelers, Colts and Browns had established with other older NFL teams.
English

@Jimschr96585222 The Falcons and Saints, and possibly the Vikings. In other words, the NFL's three most recent expansion teams.

@PeterVecsey1 Great ballplayer and competitor. As a Knicks fan Gus always worried me. Highly under appreciated today.

But to fans like me (& you) back then, that amazing first-ever matchup between NBA & ABA all-stars was anything but "meaningless." I probably enjoyed your account of it in the Post the next day, and we ABA fans talked up the game for weeks after.

Rare footage of the first ever All-Star Game between the NBA and ABA which would take place
The NBA All-Stars would defeat the ABA All-Stars 125-120.
