How to evaluate with data (not bible obviously and not comprehensive) if the companies you’re supporting passed on tariffs to you. If you want a comprehensive walk through, DM happy to discuss. Helium10, web archive, all of this data is out there to check on their pricing. BOLs and Import activity. You should be able to tell which people are looking for a quick buck via olive oil versus have been in it to do something good for consumers.
Eli Vl@lizzois

How to check if importers truly took on the cost: Importer bankruptcies should have increased over their time period. CBP should have had a significant decrease in importers numbers (consolidation) Importers who paused shipments should still be in business but bankruptcy data should be really high if they did as they were supposes Debt and loan data should be there to show who took out lines of credit. Massive importers on a $300,000 merchandise amount should have been paying an extra $45k (how did tariffs not blow them completely out..??). Layoffs in the sector skyrocketed. Or consolidation, again, showing major players eating up tons of importers. And the simplest one, if you have a good palate and you’re not an npc damaging yourself by eating protein bars, you should know the imported food you’re eating tastes Old and is rancid. Can you spot the date changing? Most consumers are idiots anyway. Also the amount of price gouging that happened via freighforwarders…Who the fuck makes someone pay for their Prior notice when the importer did it completely on their own? Add AI into that sector because the heretics and shit under the table that goes on is mafioso theft tactics. Unbelievable. The only way around it is to do it themselves. Quite possibly the easiest thing from the olive oil industry perspective to catch in the fact the wholesale price went down from 23 24 25. Importer-Sellers should have not increased their pricing. What was the major cost increase other than structurally the whole sale prices went DOWN significantly. This is a dead giveaway for anyone forensically looking to scrape illicit pass-down to consumer activity.

Signature Le Maniot post: the strategy is focused on Ag Operations. Real Farming. Generational heritage. Helping consumers understand what they’re buying. Agricultural operations depend on multi-decade land productivity. No brand creator is ever going to care about these things. Love for olive oil? Or Love for Money (quick buck) made with olive oil? The choice in strategy reveals whether the founder's actual interest is the product or the financial transaction. Consumers are well aware of these things now, thankfully.

Strait of Hormuz disruption is squeezing global fertilizer flows. Yawn we know. Ok, but what are you to do when you’re a small olive oil producers like us? Urea, ammonia, phosphate all trapped. Prices moved. Spring application windows have not…as much as we wish we did agricultural experiments, we are not (see our low density traditional farming techniques below). So Here’s an example solution we deployed when resources are tight…

Olive oil shots are a scam. Don’t let someone fool you with labeling theatrics about their phenols that degrade over time naturally…label claims ain’t labeling! If only enforcements occurred at the fda.

You can have a successful restaurant with decent (not the absolute best) food and the absolute best service. Discount what the chef says then about their olive oil and brands there using. The equation for a successful restaurant is not always The highest quality ingredients. Advertising != best quality. Also they should have a wide array of olive oils they’re trying. But if they’re not you know that sourcing for highest quality ingredients is not the top of the priority list.

Update ~90 days later someone sent us a deck of some an olive oil companies and Four people(!!) are ex-bankers (GS BAML Citi). So it’s the opposite. Investment banking —> Olive Oil (???) Not Olive Oil —> IB Someone has to do analysis on this. Why’d they leave IB and start a company that’s all based around FSVP and lipid chemistry...?? I don’t get it.
90 Days Liquidity@90daysliquidity

Cannot stress how much of an advantage it is to be a normal, well adjusted, applicant for banking roles. I reviewed a resume that listed “olive oil” as an interest. That is not an interest. It’s been hours and I cannot stop thinking about it. There will not be an interview.

Ρεεεεεε someone get ΚΟΥΛΗΣ & ΚΙΜΠΕΡΛΙ εδώ πέρα βρε. alcohol < extra virgin olive oil for the Health (MAHA anyone??) of your American consumers. Is this just talk and the importers still paying 122 surcharge? Or what is this carve out precisely.. under what basis? If trade imbalance and section 122…it requires non discriminatory application so all Section 122 going to get refunded from Feb 20 - July 24 too? Can this just get removed already for small producers and food.. we’d love to focus on selling food rather than trying to be an international trade analyst… Rant over but above insight is what goes through our brains on a daily basis.

Do you know how expensive real food safety experts are with international supply chain experience…Small businesses 100% do not have the ability to cover this. Unless cofounder is one of these professionals. Food safety consultants and the good experienced ones are $$$.

Absolutely. Visibility and availability heuristic then overlay the Whole Foods name. Social proof when you’re shopping. No one will think twice because it’s too hard for cognitive dissonance (You’re an MD and are so smart and do ALL this hard analysis and patient information but then you got to the grocery store and you buy this. Or mass market. Consumer behavior is fascinating and deeply illogical).

Most consumers have no idea where their food comes from. We wager even olive oil businesses (even the owner…) don’t even know where their olive oil comes from. You’re going to get the names of all 1000 farmers? What if you have olive oil from multiple countries? This is why it’s a red flag when an American olive oil company doesn’t even speak the language from where their olive oil comes from. Red flag. We’re a broken record talking about this. FDA could shut this down by not allowing the multiple country origins on an extra virgin bottle. It’s intellectually dishonest and harmful to consumers.

Either they’ll tell you on the label, or they’ll lie to you on the label. The CBP import numbers and production numbers are exposed so you can forensically see how much fraud is in the industry. Whole Foods can get away with this. Rules only apply to small players. Once you can afford a bulletproof legal team you can do anything you want in the Us. There’s no rules for thee... How would you verify the origin of this extra virgin olive oil? Why would you dilute and make an EXTRA virgin product Worse with canola? See how it makes no sense.

@lemaniot Interesting. Never knew that the olive oil from one bottle can have multiple origins.

If you're microdosing on GLP1s that does not mean that you suddenly get the urge to change your entire lifestyle around learning how to cook, utilizing high quality ingredients. The solution for ___(what your goal is) is akin to Not having an entire systematic way of thinking about the problem. It's a point solution. Point solutions don't require entire cuisine changes. They just require the point solution way of thinking; not more olive oil and healthy eating.

What we noticed is influencers seem to miss this risk assessment of utilizing NON extra virgin olive oils. Did you know that there's a potential to find mycotoxins in cooking and infused olis? See the below chart. You might be exposing yourself to risk that you didn't even think about when you buy infused oils. Most brands start, not with science and risk in mind. That's not who you want selling olive oil in our opinion, but there's no barrier to entry alas we see plenty of recalls in today's day and age (of AI nonetheless). [short rant over relax] This is also why we are advocates for TESTED FOR PESTICIDES labeling over Organic any day. Tested for pesticides confirms that company paid (batches, not cheap, care about consumers, transparency) and that there's someone at the company who is a scientific asset to understand testing. Also, it debunks the misconception that organic means Zero pesticdes are used. There are still pesticides and residues in the organic ceritifaction product, and organic is NOT standardized across the world. EU Organic != USDA Organic. MRLs Matter!
