.... on the flat earth belief (assuming this is what you believe) how do you explain the direct flights between Syndey (Australia) and Santiago (South America).... and between Sydney (Australia) and Johannasburg (Africa). These flights, which anyone can book, go about 3 times faster than any flat earther can explain.

I understand what you are saying.... but without being convinced the earth is spherical you cannot accept the explanations. Let me try. The reason the tides are really high during a full moon or a new moon is because of the interplay between the gravitational pull of the moon and sun on the oceans (note: moon has twice the amount of pull on the earth than the sun because of its relative location and mass). At a full moon / new moon the earth, sun and moon are in alignment and therefore the tides are the highest because the sun is not cancelling out the gravitational pull of the moon.

I am assuming you're a flat earther by your responses. Is that true? ....because you probably haven't heard my very simple argument to disprove this. ...... the moon doesn't dissapear. It cannot be seen when there is no light reflecting off of it (from the sun) or when it is on the other side of the earth to you. Interesting fact: you can see the moon the exact same amount of time during the day as during the night when averaged over a full lunar cycle (about 29.5 days).

It’s actually an interplay of a number of different forces. One is the position of the moon above the earth (sub lunar point), another is the relative spin of the earth, another is the harmonic resonance of propagating waves through the ocean, and another is the location of the continents and how they disrupt the tidal forces. For example the high tides seem to rotate anticlockwise around the coastal lands surrounding the Pacific Ocean because the general motion of tides going west is bound by land mass.

Even better…. Gravity perfectly explains tides. Tide is higher on the side of the earth facing the moon because large bodies of water are attracted to the moon. It is also higher on the opposite side of the earth because the earth is being pulled towards the moon more than the ocean on the far side…. Thus two tides per moon cycle.
