The whole idea of "incompetent to stand trial" is fucking nonsense. If you're too "incompetent" to understand that you shouldn't butcher an innocent woman on the train, you should die. Period. Arrest, convict, execute. You are not fit to be a part of human society. How many more innocent people must we sacrifice for the sake of coddling and babying the absolute scum of the Earth? Our ancestors had it right. They would have had this guy hanging from the gallows an hour after conviction. The old system of justice was light years better than this insane bullshit we're dealing with now.

Dignity is being able to take your kids to the park, seek medical care in an ER, go to the mall, or shop at Costco without feeling like you’re in a third-world shantytown. Americans have been deprived of that dignity for too long.

@teachermother1 Yup. Have always done this. Your extrapolation is interesting and true, i think. My kids are still really young but I’m interested in how this principle will play out / how you can balance bw encouraging hard things vs acknowledging true limitations.

As a young mom, I read some advice not to help your children climb up higher than they can go on their own because it may interfere with their developing sense of their own abilities and risk assessment. I think this applies to many things beyond playground equipment.
