@MartinSLewis @GMB Both my children affected by this.. one isn’t even using the degree but has over £70k of student debt 😔 wish I’d known .. would have discouraged them getting a degree!

About to go on @GMB to argue why Chancellor is morally wrong to freeze the Plan 2 student loan repayment threshold, and should reverse the decision... ...while in practice for most with that loan it works like a graduate tax, it was deliberately set up and sold as a loan contract (both so the wealthy didn't need get it and so if you move abroad you still owe it). Freezing the threshold is a one sided breach of contractual terms. No commercial lender would be allowed to do it, the FCA would strike it down. The govt shouldnt be allowed to do it either, it should at the very least stick to the terms it agreed with students when they took out their loans. This freeze hits lower and middle earning graduates the hardest. They will end up repaying, at a guesstimate, £300/yr more due to it and do so for the rest of their loan's 30yr life. While the highest earners will pay more each year too, at least for them it'll mean they'll clear the loan earlier so repay less interest.

Did you know… 1. You have more right to appeal a parking ticket than a fixed penalty notice for unauthorised absence? 2. If you’re prosecuted, truancy laws are Strict Liability - you are guilty as charged, with no right to mitigation, mediation, appeal, legal aid, representations, information, advice or support. 3. This perverts your legal right to participate in your own defence? 4. If found guilty, your career could be at risk as you’ll receive a County Court Judgement and potentially a Custodial sentence. 5. Cases usually don’t meet the Prosecutor’s Test as they are not in the Public’s interest. 6. The Magistrates Court is clogged and grinding to a halt leading to families being told they don’t need to attend a hearing or being unaware they’ve been prosecuted and their case heard without them. 7. There is no evidence to show criminalisation is an effective deterrent or improves families’ (and more importantly) children’s outcomes (or attendance long term). Instead, it increases risk in the home, raises conflict, drives families apart and further away from services. 8. Offences are issued under the Single Justice Procedure. @kirkkorner has reported extensively on the injustice of the SJP, closed hearings and decisions made in 90 seconds. @SecretJPUK has also shared insights on this. As has @TransformJust1. 9. Unauthorised school holidays are a tiny proportion of persistent absence data. @NotFineinSchool families share some schools are marking as unauthorised holiday when attending a funeral or hospital treatment, eating disorder clinic, chemotherapy, CAMHS, ND assessments… We are calling to decriminalise school attendance, and stop putting schools in the firing line with families and children. There is always Another Way. We can do better. Together.

@adamfare1996 My hubby gets PIP and is still working at 69! I am his carer and he couldn’t work without me. We look on his PIP and my Carer’s ( £1000 a month)as our disability income. If I had to go out to work to earn that £1000 my hubby could not work and the gov would lose the tax he pays.

No it's not the same. Parents don't work night shifts 7 days a week, 52 weeks of the year like unpaid carers do. Also some parents who work shifts will have children who get a taxpayer funded school bus pass. Are you passing judgement on them or only parents of disabled kids?

@Dido59Diane @JonBurrowsMLA Because you can’t drive a disabled child to a school miles away (only option) plus see to other children all at the same time. Oh and be employed! If a disabled child can go to their local school with their siblings then fair comment- but that’s not how it works..

@JonBurrowsMLA Is there also a need to ask how many parents have motability cars related to their special needs kids so why are they on busses?

I’ve been scrutinising the spend on taxis by the Education Authority on home to school transport. Of the £40 million spend per annum, £20 million was paid to 5 taxi operators in the last year. I’ve today submitted an urgent question asking which 5 companies.
