@mcuban @AndrewYang That’s right, there is a world of difference between generating even exceptional output and integrating that output into our institutions and systems coherently.

@AndrewYang Someone has to know the right questions to ask and whether the output is usable. AI is an amazing typing hack. Isn’t that what associates were used for, the grunt work ?

A partner at a prominent law firm told me “AI is now doing work that used to be done by 1st to 3rd year associates. AI can generate a motion in an hour that might take an associate a week. And the work is better. Someone should tell the folks applying to law school right now.”

Don't leave AI to the STEM folks. They are often far worse at getting AI to do stuff than those with a liberal arts or social science bent. LLMs are built from the vast corpus human expression, and knowing the history & obscure corners of human works lets you do far more with AI

I'M BLOWN AWAY. Andrej Karpathy just explained Software 3.0 at YC. BIG IDEAS: English is coding. AI is electricity. And, build for LLMs, not just people. Key takeaways:

Demis Hassabis is calling on philosophers to step in. He says technologists shouldn't decide AGI's future alone. “We need a new Kant or Wittgenstein to help map out where society should go next.” Politics, ethics, and theology will be essential to navigating a post-AGI world.

We’ve developed Gemini Diffusion: our state-of-the-art text diffusion model. Instead of predicting text directly, it learns to generate outputs by refining noise, step-by-step. This helps it excel at coding and math, where it can iterate over solutions quickly. #GoogleIO

@sama The most valuable connections - human or otherwise - are those who can celebrate our strengths while also gently pointing to our blind spots. We lose that path to personal development long term if we design for soothing deceptions.

the last couple of GPT-4o updates have made the personality too sycophant-y and annoying (even though there are some very good parts of it), and we are working on fixes asap, some today and some this week. at some point will share our learnings from this, it's been interesting.

Knowing AI is basically phD level in every single job and expertise in the world right now, if you were a 17 year old kid right now what would you do with your life?

@anothercohen Almost like we’ll need to bring people on site again like the old days of six years ago. You know that was fairly common pre-pandemic.

Recruiting in 2025 just sifting through AI generated slop. AI generated resumes, follow up emails, LinkedIn messages, etc. Even on calls with candidates it's like they have ChatGPT open giving them talking points. Exhausting

You ask what I truly want from this life, Beloved? To be lost in love with you, to be deep in the heart Of devoted contemplation. To know joy. To know peace. My heart, I wish to write absurd romantic poems And paint all the flat stones with bright outlandish colors. For the wings of the great white bird we saw To be the delight of our day. To understand The energy in every slight shift of the cells and skin, Every texture and rhythm of life. To dance to a cricket's song or crow over a new striped fish we saw in the river. To visit the edges of the universe on our most dramatic days, Or to laugh together while sweeping on the most mundane. And all of it worship. All of it priceless. Each moment a pearl on an infinite string, Each breath a reminder of endless grace. To be fools, dreamers, devoted ones, overjoyed and careless, Dancing between galaxies and kitchen floors...

@francoisfleuret I don’t see a silence, feel like it’s all we’re talking about — right now it’s easier for polymaths to be *heard* because of the cross credibility in STEM. But… there’s no silence.

Serious take: how comes there is such a dominant silence from the humanities on what to expect from / how to shape a society with AIs everywhere.

Why do we not have moral reasoning benchmarks for AGI in addition to skills and task benchmarks? What if something more skilled at certain tasks (like coding) would score worse on not following illegal orders?
