❌"Illegal immigrants"❌
That’s how Malaysian media describe Rohingya refugees fleeing genocide, when their boat sinks off the Malaysia–Thailand border. No mention of refugees, asylum or survival. Just criminalisation. The language of bureaucracy doing the work of erasure. They are not “illegal.” They are people denied every legal route to safety.

Now in Canada, #Rohingya journalists Saiful Arakani & his brother Mohammed Aziz have launched a blog. I hope they'll use it to cover both Rohingya camp developments & the challenges of the resettlement experience, which is often anything but smooth.

Malaysia 🇲🇾
Refugees arbitrarily arrested and detained as part of a campaign of immigration raids, told @FortifyRights that they were beaten, forced to maintain stress positions or stripped naked for prolonged periods, and humiliated while in detention.

UNHCR.
Another biometric controversy.

We registered with @UNHCR_BGD under the clear condition that our Biometric Identity Management System (BIMS) data would not be shared with any govt until a durable solution was found. If UNHCR now breaks that promise, it is not protecting us — it is putting our lives at risk.1/3
