@FancyABQ I think that is plausible. The whole thing is worth investigating before big decisions are made. Tough to be canceled decades after your death. And I'm no Chavez fan.

What if she made all of this up and was hoping to get her name put in his place? They don’t have any real proof that he did it, and I really don’t trust her after all this time. People don’t protect their abusers for decades. I think we should get rid of buildings/streets that have both their names on it and stop naming things after people.

🇺🇸 Sheriff Darren White (Ret.) 🇮🇪
Councilman Baca has already proposed renaming the street to honor Dolores Huerta. Huerta says she was sexually assaulted by Chavez, which is awful, but chose not to report it at the time in order to protect their cause. Chavez is now accused of sexually abusing children. It raises difficult questions about how many others may have been harmed, and whether protecting a movement took precedence over protecting our most vulnerable. If this doesn’t warrant an investigation, what does?
Linda G@FancyABQ

That was Mayor Marty that changed the street name to a Hispanic. They keep changing all the street names to people that no one ever heard of. The street should go back to its original name, Stadium Boulevard. There are lots of stadiums on that street. Why can’t we call it Stadium Boulevard?

So Caesar Rodney who went on a “midnight ride” to Philadelphia to vote for independence (breaking a deadlock for Delaware) and then became a signer of the Declaration of Independence will be commemorated for the 250th anniversary and this is the headline?

@SenatorLujan This would be a more credible complaint if you and Sen. Heinrich didn't spend your time working to raise energy prices for New Mexicans.

Just heard from a constituent in Albuquerque who paid nearly $60 just to fill up his tank. Families are already stretched thin, and President Trump’s war is making things even worse at the gas pump.

When the Trump admin pays ZERO political price for waiving the Jones Act, that will be very helpful in showing both parties it’s been a paper tiger this whole time. Not only is there no substantive reason to have the Jones Act, there’s no *political* reason to have it either.
Colin Grabow@cpgrabow

Waiver less than 24 hours old and foreign ships are already being chartered. Each of these voyages represents a cost savings. If cheaper Jones Act-compliant alternatives were available, they would have been used. Shows the existence of demand the JA fleet couldn't meet.

Dolores Huerta has had nothing but praise for Cesar Chavez her entire life, then yesterday, she suddenly comes out with rape accusations from 60 years ago, saying she had kept it quiet to protect “the movement” and her “life’s work.” Today, several celebrations to honor Chavez are being renamed to honor her instead. This has been an incredibly quick cancelation of a public figure, happening the same day the allegations were made public. One of the lessons should have been that public figures should be more thoroughly vetted before being bestowed with honors. Instead, they are just jumping headfirst into venerating another problematic person.

@bluestate_blues @TMaethner I realize this is a theory, but anyone who has even studied Chavez in a rudimentary way knows he was strongly opposed to illegal immigration. And the issue is hardly a new one. Why now?

@TMaethner @pgessing I think it's because they don't want word to get out that Cesar Chavez was opposed to illegal immigration. He understood the harm that competition from illegals causes American workers.

Today @realDonaldTrump waived the "Jones Act” because the war increased the price of oil. The Jones Act raises all sorts of prices by giving U.S. shipping companies special treatment. But it shouldn’t be waived for 60 days. Here’s why it should be killed for good.
