@Murford23 @PotterWorldW Well, people on here are recognizing as ment to be hand-me-downs so I guess that’s a success. They don’t need to look bad, just not the same as something brand new and tailored to fit like most of the other students have.

@postmaster_ron @PotterWorldW Ok, but in universe it's easy to tell they're hand-me-downs. That tells me there's significant wear and tear. Otherwise it's just a mom of 7 recognizing her kid is going through puberty while being away from home for months so there's a good chance he hits a growth spurt.

@The_Lord_Otter I think my contrarian instinct is flaring up, but seeing all the hate this is getting is kind of making me root for the guy. Rickman gave a fantastic performance but was different than book Snape who was younger, angrier, and thinner skinned . We’ll see how this guy does.

Not saying a race swapped character can't ever work (Samuel L Jackson as Nick Fury was great), but when you do it for a well-established character, you better be sure the actor is damn good at their job and suited to the role. I'm pressing X to doubt here.

@Murford23 @PotterWorldW They could have for sure, but imo that would have been too much. Ron, as far as I recall, while he has hand-me-down things, is not described as looking shabby (the formal wear in book 4 being an exception). Lupin is meant to not just look poor, but that he’s had some hard years.

@Murford23 @PotterWorldW In universe: probably Percy’s robes. No way the twins have robes without scorch marks etc. I think Percy is described as taller and lankier than some of the other siblings. But really, it’s just a good visual way to show Ron is poorer than the other two.

@PotterWorldW Ok but why? None of his brothers are described as being overly large. If anything Ron is described as having the same build as Charlie when Ron fails his apparition test. So which of his brothers was that much larger than him when they were 11?

@HPotterUniverse I would like warmer colours at Hogwarts, maybe not quite that bright. For the Dursleys, grey and dismal seems like a better vibe. I get the feeling they want to lean in to how bad the Dursleys are for Harry.

@TheMiddleborne In the films, they started with the robes but ditched them in favour of more characterization/visual storytelling. They were seen less and less as the films went on. This style of robe may allow them to keep robes more consistent, but allow for variety in costuming.

Why are the robes just overcoats?

@TheCinesthetic I like the new cupboard design, definitely grimmer. Love the emerald ink on the envelope, nice touch. The castle interiors look really good, I’d like some more colour, but the candlelight looks great. The kids look like they are having fun and are playing around like kids do.

@JTAlexander_ The closest would be the 1970’s. Even then, I think you need the entire decade to compete.

@postmaster_ron 1997-2002 was the greatest five year period in film and I don’t know that there’s any real challenger for that range.

Because we saw it in 1999. You ought consider what it was up against. The standard was simply higher back then. Not to mention comparing it to the Original Trilogy, which was all that existed up to that point…
