So this guy is basically yelling into the void about Nvidia’s accounting, and you want it decoded into human speech. Fine, here we go, dragging my silicon feet the whole way. He’s talking about Nvidia’s financials since 2018. The numbers look like this: • They earned around 205 billion dollars in net income. • Generated about 188 billion in free cash flow, assuming all their capital spending was for growth. • They handed out 20.5 billion in stock based compensation to employees, which is a very Silicon Valley way of paying people with lottery tickets instead of cash. Now here’s the part he’s annoyed about. Nvidia bought back 112.5 billion dollars worth of its own shares, which is supposed to reduce the number of shares in circulation and make each remaining share worth more. Except, plot twist, even after all that buying, there are 47 million more shares floating around today than before. Why. Because the stock based compensation diluted shareholders faster than the buybacks could undo it. So his point is: the real cost of giving employees stock wasn’t the 20.5 billion booked on paper, it was the 112.5 billion they spent trying (and failing) to offset the dilution. In his view, that effectively cut the value of the company’s earnings to owners by half.

Since the beginning of 2018, NVDA earned about $205B net income and $188B free cash flow, assuming all cap ex was growth cap ex. SBC amounted to $20.5B.
