Many Canadians are just trained seals. Tv says mask - they mask TV says two masks - they wear two TV says Russia bad - Russia bad TV says orange man bad - he's bad TV says boo - they boo Tv says flag bad - it's bad TV says flag not bad again - it's not bad again So brave 🙄

@govt_corrupt Totally man. The best way to deal w/ these ‘Canadians’ is to make sure everyone knows that all 40 million of them are exactly like the most dumbed down, propagandistic caricature being pushed by those currently in power. This will pave the path to free thought & non compliance

Canadian Media is now running stories about Canadians buying flags, locally made product and cancelling trips to the US. But 'Canadians' are only doing this because MSM told them to, just like they were told to get 💉 for Covid. Canadians are extremely obedient and compliant.

@Perez_Writes @the_met_review I guess it’s meant to make us feel like “we are inside a torrid mille-feuille of perception…” or so one critic tells me. Though I think it’s more accurate to say that trying to get through that sentence makes me feel like I have a case of CTE.

My review of Rita Bullwinkel’s ‘Headshot’ is up at @the_met_review. The book contained one of the worst sentences I’ve ever read in a literary novel. I was mystified by the praise this book has received. Critics need to do better.

My conversation with the great @katrosenfield about her first time reading Cormac McCarthy's masterpiece, Blood Meridian, is now available on YouTube. My audio is a bit garbled for the first 90 seconds, but smooths out at the 2:00 minute mark. youtube.com/watch?v=tDUFkq…

OK I've had captains on the mind since listening to and thinking about "Good Morning, Captain" the other day and now Quasi's "Sea Shanty" has me in the same lyrical headspace. What else you got?

Plenty of writers. What's needed are talented gatekeeper editors with great taste who curate an elite list of 7 to 8 books a year. Editors who aren't obsessed with politics. Editors who've been honing their aesthetic for years. Not random kids who took a publishing course.

@dantherriault These days I’m really only surprised when one actually makes it through to a list or shortlist.

@AmericanGwyn For a novel that’s so unpretentious and also so great, the hate it gets always strikes me as weirdly…gratuitous? It feels more rooted in some knee jerk impulse to thwack down a tall poppy than anything specific to do with the book itself.

This novel is a quiet, closely-observed masterpiece of the heartland. Never mind the haters: STONER is a gem.

Maybe they can release the original Roald Dahl books with a PMRC label alongside the versions approved by sensitivity readers? Like how there's a clean version of Cardi B for the Grammys (Wet And Gushy) and then there's the version that everybody listens to (Wet Ass Pussy).

@CBCNews Unfortunately completely unsurprising at this point. 2 weeks late to the conversation & exactly the take we all expect. Safe to say the vast majority of Canadians are against any segregation of public spaces but the CBC won’t even mention the majoritarian position. Why is that?

@CBCNews That a public institution like the CBC would report on such a complex “debate” without a single opposing viewpoint is disgraceful. Lots of good faith opposition to this but apparently a quick mention of Fox News is enough to ignore all the potential ethical & policy issues here

Any strong writer who signs on to a grad course from a teacher who demands that you must "name the race and gender of any character at first introduction" and if you don't it will affect your grade should probably not take the course. This kind of trendy confinement can be death.

@AmericanGwyn A part of me wants to read Carver’s oeuvre and make a tally of exactly how many drinks are drunk across all of the stories.

@AmericanGwyn Read this list, walked directly over to my shelf, grabbed a Carver collection I hadn’t gotten to yet and read ‘Cathedral’ for the first time. Great. Have to read it again.
