@jodilasky @StephMDavis I really like this recommendation ⬆️ It formalizes time spent to meet your survival needs, but also forces time for brainspace / grounding. I was wondering where/how you advertised for new freelance clients? (I assume for scientific writing / articles)

@StephMDavis Remember: this is a marathon, not a sprint. You have to take care of yourself to make it through. Set hard limits on the freelancing - maybe 2 hours/night or 4 hours on weekend mornings (so 8-10 hours a week at most) - so you can balance needing the money with needing a break.

@weddywoo @JeffreyMHalpern Seconding Jon Hopkins, Nature sounds/white noise for deep work. Oddly, I've discovered that uptempo video game soundtracks (ex: Borderlands 2&3) & sci-fi or fantasy epic soundtracks (ex: Mandalorian/Netflix Witcher) has made starting any arduous task far less painful.

Another question I have is about funding. Do you think it is OK to spend my lifelong savings to start a PhD and hope to get funded when I start, or just disregard acceptances if not funded? @AcademicChatter Thanks for overwhelming support responses 😍

@hannahkloo @AcademicChatter Yes. As a competitive powerlifter I trained 3x per week while I was a PhD candidate & now as a postdoc. During the weekdays Im lifting by 5:30AM Monday & Wednesday. My most intense lifting session is saved for Saturday morning. But the drive to the gym is less than 10 minutes.
