🩷 Experience of Shen Yun! An unforgettable experience. After watching Shen Yun in Berlin, an economist said, "It touches your heart." "I found it absolutely overwhelming, truly magnificent. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I think it won’t be the last time I watch it,” said Christian Bulling, a venue manager. ============ Currently, Shen Yun is having performances in 2026 worldwide. ☘️ Book your tickets now: sypa.us/tickets ☘️ See more: shenyun.com

I'm pretty crazy about Diana Wynne Jones. Probably my fav author. She mostly wrote children's books but they're pretty challenging. The few adult books are absurdly rich. She wrote ~33 novels and v few are misses. So fluid & vivid I tend to write immediately after rereading her.

While he was writing ULYSSES, Joyce told his friend Frank Budgen that he’d spent eight hours working on a single sentence. The sentence: “The heaventree of stars hung with humid, nightblue fruit.”

Imagine adding buttery spread to a piece of toast. Once you pack a decent bit of it on, each additional unit of spread starts adding less value than the unit before. This is called diminishing margarineal returns.

It's crazy that this worked. The uploaded fly has 91% behavior accuracy with only 4 things: 1. the graph of connections 2. the weights as determined by the number of synapses connecting those neurons 3. a map of excitatory and inhibitory neurons 4. leaky-integrate-and-fire This shows how much information is captured by the architecture itself, rather than the neuron model, which is great for the feasibility of full emulation.

We've uploaded a fruit fly. We took the @FlyWireNews connectome of the fruit fly brain, applied a simple neuron model (@Philip_Shiu Nature 2024) and used it to control a MuJoCo physics-simulated body, closing the loop from neural activation to action. A few things I want to say about what this means and where we're going at @eonsys. 🧵

@michaelandregg @eonsys In the video the fly moves around, scratches its face, etc. — doesn't this require interpreting motor neuron outputs?

The fly cannot fly quite yet because we don't know how to interpret the motor neuron outputs. only the brain was scanned. This is one of the reasons why we want to scan the brain and body. Then it won't require careful behavioral studies where you're watching motor neuron activity and seeing how the fly behaves, how it flaps its wings and such

There’s a lot going on in the world… Here’s a small distraction with some interesting results about using LLMs for compression, and the implications for model weight security. New paper: "Haiku to Opus in Just 10 Bits." We investigate compression techniques for LLM outputs.
