@femmemage maybe this would just make them even more scared of women LOL
English

i've wondered about this bc many women do advocate for this!! and shown in research, this is a way to achieve *justice*
i guess an issue is, if we get punished just the same by retaliating is there really any justice?
& is there justice in perpetuating toxicity?

i think more women in league should soft int / be more toxic. mirror the same energy, don't take the high ground.

@encee_esvee Personally I welcome the new change, but there’s a balanced way to introduce VC to competitive gaming. It’s probably gonna shock a lot of people (as it is rn) so there must be some ways to make ppl trust the system is meant to help them and not introduce new harm
English

After studying toxicity and gendered toxicity in competitive games, I’m interested to see how this will affect the game’s reputation and player experience.
We can’t even report players for sexism and racism anymore, dismissing it’s existence in competitive play

@encee_esvee regarding commenting on performance, i think there’s a clear difference in using words to demean/hurt vs suggesting alternative strategies that are helpful for performance
could totally be a social skills issue too, maybe moderation systems could help teach etiquette lol
English

@settintiaras Where do you think the line is between personal issues and one's the system should handle?
Why is trash talk or flaming different from say people who are uncomfortable with swearing or blasphemy?
Is *any* comment on someone's performance problematic?
genuine, not arguing

@drewlevin As a researcher, my specialty is working in the problem space! Tbh since it’s clear there’s additional context from your team I’d love to have a conversation to discuss the solutions available and share ideas that way
English

@drewlevin Thanks for the clarification!! I’m glad to hear that there’s data internally available and acknowledge the tradeoffs here. Wish this transparency could also be included more. Is there any way to increase transparency meaningfully to improve player trust in the system?

Our recent reporting changes in no way are intended to erase or downplay that sexism and racism exist, or to imply that they are no longer considered violations of our policies or "lesser" than other types of potential abuse. Internally, we still have the same (and in some cases, even better) mappings of how different forms of comms abuse translate to penalties. Our recent changes were made to simplify what category players could select for general comms abuse, as we've seen players who straight-line all of them. As with many UX tradeoffs, some nuance can get lost - but sexism and racism are considered hate speech in our books, which is why that descriptor is still there.

@KingiBeezeyy not chatgpt!! if you're interested in learning more, the points here are made in our paper: dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/37…
or better yet, pursue research yourself and show why avoidance is better than reporting. looking forward to you future work!!!!!!
English

@settintiaras are you really giving me ChatGPT answers right now lmao. Pls talk to me like a person first.
English

@itsiiyo @KingiBeezeyy dont want to undermine your experience, but i speak from a research perspective. if you're interested, the points here are made in our paper dl.acm.org/doi/10.1145/37…
or better yet, pursue research yourself and show this to me :)
English

@settintiaras @KingiBeezeyy 1. The guy spamming harassment isn’t giving or receiving key comms.
2. Based on? If anything I’ve seen /muteall and OTP regardless of team comp climb easier.
3. League has always been the solo carry 1v9 “I’m the hero” moba. If we wanted #3 we’d play DOTA2 or Smite tbh.
