ہاہاہا زہے نصیب the only problem is the tweet wasn’t made by a colonizer justifying erasure. applying the colonial discourse critique symmetrically, as if it doesn’t matter who is speaking or from what position, flattens the whole point of positionality, which is supposedly what
شرق‌زده sharghzadeh@sharghzadeh

This may sound de-colonial and woke, but this discourse was created by colonizers to justify language erasure and genocide. That Urdu word (hijr) is a loan from Persian, which itself came from Arabic, so English can also borrow the word and not be spiritually bankrupt.

“Drew Pavlou is a BAD MAN”
History Speaks@History__Speaks

@DrewPavlou is a bad man. Interpersonally I have enjoyed talking with him too. But he's become a bigot and demagogue. He claims to fight for "the West" but his narrow-minded, bigoted, consciously dishonest chauvinism betrays the principles that made the West good and prosperous. He's also gone from reasonable criticism of immigration and necessary criticism of extremist Muslims - who in the Salafi Jihadist form do pose a unique threat to the West among other religious extremists - to prejudiced hatred and demagogic attacks on Muslims as such.

Drew, the following may be hard for you to understand, so I'm happy to explain at length, but two points are important: 1) I believe the death penalty is immoral in all cases. Given that, the details are irrelevant. Whether America has robust due process and only executes the guilty is unimportant to me. You style yourself as a liberal concerned with human rights. What is your stance on the death penalty? 2) It's ironic that you compared this Iranian man to the man who stabbed Iryna Zarutska, because the Iranian man who was executed was on CCTV, stabbing another man to death. It then follows that you would support his execution. Somehow I feel like if the killer of Iryna was executed swiftly, you would cheer it on as a win for Western civilization or whatever. You know nothing about Iran, my country, while you cheer on the war that could very well destroy it. I have watched you go from a well-meaning liberal to someone who defends the worst anti-civilizational forces in the West. I'm sad to say that we have no common ground or ability to dialogue anymore. I can only come to that conclusion because you replied with a screenshot instead of a repost. If you have no interest in dialogue, then neither do I.
Drew Pavlou 🇦🇺🇺🇸🇺🇦🇹🇼@DrewPavlou

The difference here is that the US legal system is actually fair. What a joke to pretend there is even the slightest shred of moral equivalence between the Iranian regime executing a random teenage protester vs the US carrying out the death penalty against the bloke who stabbed Iryna Zarutska to death on video After decades of legal warfare by left wing activists the average death penalty recipient in the US is somebody who raped and murdered someone before eating them, they get like 20 legal appeals, there is no equivalence whatsoever.

urdu has a word for the pain of separation that contains, within it, the assumption that reunion is cosmically possible. while english is so spiritually bankrupt it can name the ache but not imagine its end.

@saph_podcast @koutchoukalimar By saying what you just said. Though calling a language “uninteresting” is already a silly enough stance where you maybe don’t have the linguistic background needed to be dolling out judgements of them

.@GovPritzker, I saw your post honoring lives lost in Minnesota—standing publicly, naming Alex Pretti and Renee Good, and laying flowers in their memory. But where was that same compassion on January 19, 2025? That is the day my 20-year-old daughter, Katie Abraham, was killed here in Illinois. She was innocent. She did not knowingly put herself in the middle of an ongoing law enforcement situation. She was not making a dangerous choice. She was simply living her life—and it was taken from her. You have never said her name. You have never come to where she died. You have never acknowledged her publicly. And beyond that—you have never even responded to me. I sent you a simple, non-political letter. Not for attention. Not for headlines. Just a father asking for clarity, for answers, and for understanding of the state’s position. You never replied. And now, in the wake of another tragedy here in Chicago, your public display of compassion elsewhere—while remaining silent about victims in your own state—feels deeply disconnected from the reality families like mine are living every day. Instead, you continue to defend sanctuary policies that create the conditions where preventable tragedies like hers can happen. This is not about politics. It’s about leadership and accountability. When you choose to publicly mourn some victims while remaining silent about others—especially those lost under policies you support—it sends a message. Whether intentional or not, it tells families like mine that our loss does not matter the same way. So I am asking you directly: Where is your compassion for my daughter? Where is your acknowledgment of victims here in Illinois? And when will you take responsibility for the consequences of the policies you defend? Say her name: Katie Abraham. Stand where she died. Show the people of Illinois that every life matters.
Governor JB Pritzker@GovPritzker

Standing with Minnesotans tonight and paying my respects to Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Ending our involvement in Iran is a must. So far 13 Americans have died, and that’s 13 too many. I’m excited to see what kind of deal is being struck, hopefully one that is not only a win for the United States, but one that opens up the people of Iran to a bright future.

@romanhelmetguy Tucker is saying that a functioning, thriving, self-confident society can tolerate diversity in a way a chaotic, decaying, and self-hating society cannot. Generally speaking, Tucker is correct.
