The most interesting thing in tech: a cool new app called Particle that I think helps show one promising future for real news --- and one way that media and the AI industry can work together.

This week, we started testing Focused Feeds 🧐 in the Particle Beta! You can use natural language to define a custom feed of news. It's still in testing, but reply to me here and I'll respond with a feed for you. What custom feed would you want to see? Some examples 👇

Beta users, we have a new feature for you to test out: Focused Feeds Describe whatever you want to track, and we’ll continuously scan for news about it. Think Google Alerts that go far beyond keyword matching. Need to know about the latest corporate mergers, NFL trades, or celebrity breakups? Swipe over from your main news feed and see the latest in the Focused Feeds you have created. What feeds would you create?

Okay everyone, this app is awesome. I’ve been using it for a couple of hours and it’s gotten pretty tuned to my preferences. Here are a couple of highlights: 1. Great recommendation algorithm and tuning 2. Design is sleek, modern, and pleasant to use. It makes you actually want to read the news. 3. The options for digesting a story are what set it apart. Particularly the opposite sides one. You can immediately get information from both sides (particularly politics) and then make educated decisions and thoughts based on that. Truly amazing and I look forward to continuing to use it. Great job @particle_news team 👏

Nancy asked me yesterday what we're supposed to do about climate change. It's a good question. On the level of an individual, short of starting a cleantech company or going into politics, what can one do to actually move the needle?

@paulg How American tech companies respond to Russia will have a huge effect too. We need to pull the plug on all forms of tech—particularly entertainment—that are keeping people off the streets. Please use your influence to practical effect.

How the EU responds to the invasion of Ukraine will have a huge effect on its reputation. If the EU is ineffective, people will write it off as a joke. But if it clamps down hard enough on Russia to make a difference, its reputation will be greatly enhanced.
