We’re launching a new @alphaschoolatx high school for aspiring entrepreneurs. Our promise: Make $1m by graduation, or receive a full tuition refund. Yes, this will be the coolest high school in the world. And we're building the best team in the world to make it happen. We’re looking for 2-3 exceptional coaches to help us guide the students towards achieving this aggressive but achievable goal. You won’t be giving lectures or assigning homework. You’ll be grilling them on their P&L, driving them to the car wash they bought, critiquing their email funnels, pushing them to do things 99% of the world doesn't believe is possible. Job posting is live and DMs are open.

We're hiring a design leader at @NotionHQ. Maybe it's you. This is about leading through making, enabling builders, and building yourself. You take great pride in seeing excellent output being appreciated in the hands and hearts of customers. You create momentum that leads to quality. You'll be reporting to me, but you're not so concerned with reporting. Managing up isn't the vibe. Supporting the team is. Talk to me and @kurissuuu

Oh man, I have a lot to say on this. tl;dr - this is not a good way to test AI writing. It's common knowledge amongst novelists using LLMs for years that in small snippets, AI can match the quality of human writing. The trick is making this quality coherent throughout a book. Trust me, I've run blind tests since 2022 with 100s of techniques, ranging from short stories to novels to poetry. Machines can write good prose! Even experts can be "tricked." But prose in isolation is not something that people are good at evaluating, nor is it terribly useful, unless the artifact you are producing is short, like book blurbs or marketing copy. What's far more interesting is a whole narratives. This is still a challenge. But we are on the cusp of machines being able to emulate that as well. However, the way we evaluate that won't be in short snippets.
Kevin Roose@kevinroose

We made a blind taste test to see whether NYT readers prefer human writing or AI writing. 86,000 people have taken it so far, and the results are fascinating. Overall, 54% of quiz-takers prefer AI. A real moment! nytimes.com/interactive/20…

@kevinroose Has anyone done a test like this with full stories or even novels? Feels similar to how if you put up a single frame of a slop trailer people would say it's comparable to the real thing--but when you expand it over several minutes, the lack of craft in storytelling becomes stark.

I started my first job in a decade. Last fall, @CameronSorsby reached out to ask if I could do a workshop at @AlphaSchoolATX on vibe coding. I had a blast, and was blown away by how sharp and entrepreneurial the students were. Cameron and I kept talking, discussing his plans to expand Alpha’s entrepreneurial and AI education, and the more we talked the more I realized I had to be a part of it. This week I officially joined as the “Head of Founder Development.” I’m working on expanding the high school’s AI and entrepreneurship curriculum, along with a much bigger project for the Fall I’ll be able to share soon. With young kids of my own and my deep frustration with the education system, @jliemandt and Alpha’s mission is one I’m extremely passionate about and thrilled to be a part of. If anyone is going to fix education, it’s us. Can’t wait to share more on what we’re building.

I've been training an openclaw to be a sci-fi writer. Every day, it writes and read stories, we discuss, and it logs its memory and updates a taste profile of what we (or it) likes. Today, I asked it to write from the POV of an LLM and to surprise me. It wrote this.

I have a guest essay in @nytimes today about autonomous vehicle safety. I wrote it because I’m tired of seeing children die. Done right, we can eliminate car crashes as a leading cause of death in the United States @Waymo recently released data covering nearly 100 million driverless miles. I spent weeks analyzing it because the results seemed too good to be true. 91% fewer serious-injury crashes. 92% less pedestrians hit. 96% fewer injury crashes at intersections. The list goes on. 39,000 Americans died in crashes last year. More than homicide, plane crashes, and natural disasters combined. The #2 killer of children and young adults. The #1 cause of spinal cord injury. We’ve accepted this as the price of mobility. We don’t have to. In medicine, when a treatment shows this level of benefit, we stop the trial early. Continuing to give patients the placebo becomes unethical. When an intervention works this clearly, you change what you do. In driving, we’re all the control group. Cities like DC and Boston are blocking deployment. And cities are not the only forces mobilizing to slow this progress. It’s time we stop treating this like a tech moonshot and start treating it like a public health intervention that will save lives. Link to article below. 👀 this video of Waymo cars evading crashes with people and vehicles. I especially note the ones that require it having a 360° view. My sincere thanks to Alex Ellerbeck and @acsifferlin for their wisdom and sure hand in editing this piece.

always wished an app like this existed. get a single notification each morning to capture your top priority. I’ve handwritten this for years - and it’s so valuable - but I have no history or way to see any patterns or trends. It’s so simple that it previously couldn’t exist as a standalone app. but now, thanks to @wabi, it can! and now that multiplayer is live, in one tap we can make it a whole feed of people’s one daily top priority to get inspired join at the link below and come eat the frog with me 🐸
