£100m for Sandro Tonali is an extraordinary overpay. Tottenham are happy to be rinsed in the market & give inflated wages because of the position they're in. That's not ambition, don't confuse the two because they're throwing money around. It's two entirely different things - that's being in your Ed Woodward era. Manchester United walked away from Tonali at the beginning of the summer because of the asking price & wages & clearly they were right to do it.

If you want to pay £85m for Mateus Fernandes & give him £250k per week, good luck to you. If you want to pay £100m (!) for Sandro Tonali & give him £300k per week, good luck to you. It is the Ed Woodward guide to transfers for dummies. If people want this & think it's the strategy to take, they have learned nothing from the past decade of horrendous transfers & bloated wages.
