1/ Korea’s largest payment infrastructure provider, BC Card, and @base have signed an MOU to develop a pilot for USDC-based payments within BC Card’s on/offline payment infrastructure via the @baseapp.
2/ BC Card serves 36 million users and 3.5 million merchants nationwide. Through this PoC, and in preparation for Korea’s evolving stablecoin regulatory framework, the parties will assess how USDC and future KRW-denominated stablecoins could be supported at the infrastructure level across the Base chain, Base app, and BasePay.
3/ Today, 16 fiat-backed stablecoins are live on Base. By providing an end-to-end onchain infrastructure stack, Base serves as an execution layer supporting the distribution and interoperability of compliant stablecoin use cases. (reference: stablecoins.earth)
This pilot represents an early step in exploring how stablecoins can improve payment efficiency and global interoperability. We welcome conversations with partners interested in building toward a more open, compliant, and inclusive digital economy that expands economic freedom for all.
