@CodeRed_dev You have released your game right? I think I saw some ads from a 3rd party account promoting it. How did it go!
English

@CodeRed_dev what percentage of them was vibecoded ai slop re-listed several times with some assets changed
English

@CodeRed_dev real same w the google appstore with idk i cant remember how much i paid only for them to say i need to pay for ads for my app to rank in organic search
English

I’ve been saying this for a while now. Steam isn’t a launch strategy. It’s a shelf.
Distribution density + mental availability - think of it like a new candy bar you launch. Would you launch that in one supermarket chain? Or multiple chains? Would you launch your new candy bar line without any marketing across multiple streams be that below the line or above then line? No.
Steam is the supermarket shelf.
Mental availability is whether someone walked in already looking for your product. You need to create that kind of demand.
Plenty of other platforms willing to help support devs market their games… ;)
English

@CodeRed_dev That's rough to the max...
English

@CodeRed_dev I guess, but open steam and take a look at every single game released today... At most you will find 2 games worth checking out, most of it is very low effort or a gamedev course final project. Game jams quality tends to be higher, even if most games are simple demos.
English

@CodeRed_dev We used to have one or two games released every day, max.
Now there's over 20.
English

@CodeRed_dev Context though, I personally have seen the same game from a godot YouTube tutorial on how to make your own game re skinned twice. Both were over 5 dollars. I recognised it because I did the tutorial as well. I'm sure many of those 5k games didn't deserve their 100 back
English

@CodeRed_dev Be nice if there was even a small amount of quality control by literally any means.
So so so so much AI slop and just (insert random shit) simulator that's been made 10 other times and equally as broken each time and uses entirely free Unity assets.
English

I suspect this is why many indie devs spend so much time on X and social media.
They're desperately trying to get eyes on their game—a perfectly reasonable reaction when selling it is their main objective.
But now consider bigger AAA studios. Ever wonder why delays have become more common?
I'm not saying every delay is for attention seeking, but could be a possibility.
English

@CodeRed_dev It's gonna get worse, too. more content, faster pace, shorter attention spans....
English

@CodeRed_dev Although I get it... there is a shit ton of slop in the Steam store. Who's buying a thousand different sexy anime jigsaw puzzle games?
English

@CodeRed_dev I would honestly love a feature where we could browse those games on steam. It would be a fun monthly event where everyone went and bought 1 of those games and livestreamed it to hunt for hidden gems.
English

@CodeRed_dev @dallao_porra Some corners of steam are so dreadful that you can't even call them games
English

@CodeRed_dev i read some stat like for 10 000 games released, 100 make their money back, and from those maybe 10 make enough to do a sequel or another game with more funds etc
English

@CodeRed_dev Fairly cheap, should be higher imo, so much shovelware clones out there it's silly.
English

@CodeRed_dev What?! Even my first steam release made enough money back to pay for the fee and I considered it a failure.
Huh, I don't feel so bad about it now.😅

English

@CodeRed_dev Considering how many clearly trash games I am seeing regularly in the discover queue, not surprising at all.
English

@CodeRed_dev What most people don't know is that 99,9% of games on Steam are random amateur slop projects with near zero production value.
Genuinely professionnal-grade games on Steam are actually very rare
English

@CodeRed_dev 😬
Soon we will find out how many wishlists our demo will make. If It's too little then I am going solo and hopefully making a unique game to stand out. There are too many incremental games already.

English

@CodeRed_dev I am pleased to say that my FPS Biathlon Challenge will be the first game launched on Steam to sell over a biathlion copies worldwide.
English

@CodeRed_dev I am so thankful I am not one of those.
English

@CodeRed_dev Over 5,000 games released on Steam this year are steaming piles of shit.
English

@CodeRed_dev I did manage to recover the $100 fee, but I indeed did not manage to reach $1000.
I'm around $900, I may possibly reach $1000 on the long run, but yeah, it's hard 😅
English

@CodeRed_dev I’m gonna be frank while there are absolutely games they probably deserve the attention there are also a lot of low effort slop that won’t make it
English

@CodeRed_dev HIIII
my game was one of these!!! (im not suprised, it's kind of really mid. im happy it made 35 dollar tho, that is epic)
at least im in the top 5000 of something :3
English

@CodeRed_dev oh, i am rember
one of those game dev influencer yapped how this is a good thing- luckily i dont see any of those in my youtube shorts.
on the good side: a friend of mine worked hard on twitch to reach those 100.
English

@CodeRed_dev too many people making shit stuff with ai
English

@CodeRed_dev @eigenrobot
to be IN SteamWorks with -one- game in there would be a fun Rite of Passage though
English

@CodeRed_dev Crossing my fingers that’s not me!
